The Third Team (footballrefereeing.blogspot.com)

1) Description of the match: The last matchday before the semifinals, and a very big match for both teams. Norway need to avoid defeat to make sure to go to semifinals and Italy needs to avoid defeat to be winner of group A. Referee assigned to this match was Ivan Bebek who has had a good performance in the tournament so far. The pitch was excellent and so was the weather, maybe a little bit too hot for the players as it was around 30C.

2) Knowledge, Application and Interpretation of the Laws of the Game, Disciplinary Control and Technical Management of the game with special reference to the situations and the minutes when they occurred. (Crucial decisions, if available, have to be explicitly mentioned in the grid and highlighted). Comments: The referee showed good interpretation of the LotG. It was also good that the referee ordered some freekicks to be retaken when the ball wasnt in the right position or was moving when the freekick was taken. During the game the most crucial decision was the penalty given to Norway in minute 90. There is some contact on the Norwegian player by the Italian players, however this is very very soft and not enough contact for a penalty. The call was made by AAR2 who also discussed with the referee before the penalty was taken. The referee issued cards where it was necessary and tried to verbally caution first. The match overall was quite fair and very interesting to watch. He did try to let the game flow as much as possible. Minute 90 Description of the situation Penalty awarded for Norway. There is little contact between Strandberg (NOR) and Capuano (ITA). Situation is discussed with AAR2.

3) Tactical approach and its Degree of Consistency, Personality, Match Control and Management of the Teams and Players with special reference to the situations and the minutes when they occurred. Comments: He was consistent in his foul detection and was very clear with his signals and gestures when he stopped the play when an offence occurred. Bebek had the whole game under control and was quickly there whenever something occurred. He gave the players verbally warnings, and when needed yellow cards. However he could have sometimes shown more determination and communication when talking to players. Summary of 2) and 3): Positive Points 1. 2. 3. Is using a clear body-language whenever a foul occurs with good signals and gestures Always close to play Had the game under control

Co-operation with AARs should be improved to make it less irritating. Communication, he could be a bit more present when interacting with players.

Physical Condition (very good, good, average, poor): Very Good Further Aspects: + Expected X X X Minute All game Always close to play, follows play at all times with a flexible diagonal system and impedes interference with play Efficient positioning (at set pieces e.g.) and movement to be ready to take a (crucial) decision (specially in the box; be able to enter the box in some cases when it is necessary) Shows awareness and is able to anticipate the action

Description of the situation During the whole game he was always close to play

5) Teamwork (co-operation with (A)ARs and fourth official with reference, if needed, to special situations and the minutes when they occurred) Comments: The teamwork between all involved was good. Assistants helped him with several fouls aswell as offside and onside. The AARs werent too involved, AAR2 was involved in the penalty situation and the referee was there discussing with him aswell.

6) If needed: General comments or advices for improvement; explanation of the chosen mark; further matters (can be let empty). Comments: Bebek had a good performance this evening. His mark is not lowered due to the penalty call, I chose to lower it on AAR2 instead as Bebek had even turned his head and following the play when AAR2 says that its a penalty.
