"Finally, the Germans attempted to profit from the old rivalry between
Catholic Croatia and Greek Orthodox Serbia. Croatia, occupied by Italy, was
made a Fascist state under a well-known terrorist, Pavelic, whose armed bands,
the Uustash, carried out horrible massacres of Serbs and Jews. At first, Pavelic
