Small description of the match (extra-ordinary incidents etc.): Second Match of Group A between USA and Spain played as well at Ali Sami Yen in Istanbul. The stadium presented an attendance of 4500 spectators which is rather low for such a tournament. Pitch conditions were very good and also the weather creating ideal conditions for a very good match. Spain was without doubt better than USA and managed an easy win. There werent many hard tackles and 5 out of 6 yellow cards were issued at the second half when the scoreline was 0-3. So match difficulty can be described as ormal

Crucial Decisions (refer to penalty kicks, sending-off situations etc.) Minute and Description of the Scene / Assessment of the referees decision Javier Manquillo (ESP) enters the box and is being fouled by Yeldin (USA). The tackle makes a clear contact to the opponent and since there is no intention to 18 play the ball this makes it a clear infraction. Penalty missed by the Referee and AR2 (who could help since the infraction happens in front of him).

Basic Observations (refer to the general application of the LotG, highlight the referees tactical approach, personality, match control, management of the teams and players, teamwork etc.). Please deploy short but precise and detailed sentences! Positive Points Very good positioning and movement Always close to play but doesnt intervene 1. with play. Applying of advantage rule. Referee had the patience to wait even more than 3 2. seconds in some situations. 3. Foul detection and distinction of direct and indirect free-kicks. Good card management and player management. 6 yellow cards in total (all 4. justified) and most of them after Spains 4th goal when the tension was up and there were many nerves. Points for Improvement More backwards movement is needed. At the first half he moved sometimes backwards but not always. At the second half he gave it up and always turned his 1. back to the ball. In more challenging games this could potentially be dangerous as many things can happen when the referee isnt watching More awareness and attention needed especially inside the penalty area. The 2. referee should be able to recognize clear infractions of the LoTG and not to seek help from the assistant when he has an optimal position.

Further observations (peculiarities of the referee revealing his character) Surely the match wasnt so challenging since both teams wanted to exhibit their technical abilities. In that extend Gassama was able to control it well and caution the offences needed. But he must pay more attention to infractions inside the penalty area. He shows lack of courage and ability to recognize and punish such infractions. He should get another match but he has to improve especially his decisionmaking in order to get the ticket to Brazil.
