Small description of the match (extra-ordinary incidents etc.): First match of this years edition of World Cup U20 featuring France and Ghana. The match was played at Ali Sami Yen Arena in Instabul, Turkey. Pitch conditions and the weather were ideal but the attendance was rather low. Only 4.133 spectators created a disappointing view of the stadium. Match was very fair, without hard tackles and dangerous play. This combined with the defensive strategy Ghana chose to approach the match made the referees work easy since there werent any crucial decisions to be made and the match ended with only 2 yellow cards. So the difficulty for the referee can be described as Normal.

Bahebeck (FRA) is marked inside the penalty area 55 by Duncan (GHA) and fells. Ball goes out of play for a goal-kick. Even though there might be a contact it is not enough in my opinion for a penalty-kick.

Basic Observations (refer to the general application of the LotG, highlight the referees tactical approach, personality, match control, management of the teams and players, teamwork etc.). Please deploy short but precise and detailed sentences! Positive Points Foul detection. He had a clear line punishing only the fouls needed and not 1. whistling every little contact thus allowing the game to flow. Co-operation with assistants and FO. Very good at this area since they were 2. talking a lot making many correct decisions. Dealing with situations inside the penalty area. He was aware of every pushing 3. and holding inside the box and could deal with them properly. Points for Improvement Card management and especially with situations regarding repeatedly holding of an opponent and especially in cases of stopping a promising attack. I felt that in 1. some cases he didnt want to punish such offences but this could backfire in a more challenging match. Positioning and movement in the pitch. He should adjust his training and try to use more backwards movement especially after awarding a free-kick or a goal-kick. In 2. many situations and in order to take a better position he turned his back at the ball and started running. This potentially can create problems in a match where there is a lot of tension and passion. The referee should always watch the ball.

Further observations (peculiarities of the referee revealing his character) Surely this match wasnt challenging at all in order to evaluate properly a referee. But Wilmar Roldan revealed some aspects of his tactical approach and character. He had a good Interpretation and application of the LoTG especially in regard with foul detection. Furthermore his fitness/stamina was very good allowing him to be near the action and take the correct decision. He management of the players was good with some mandatory verbal warning but he could improve his card management especially in cases of repeated holding of an opponent. I would like to see him again at the later stages of the tournament but in a more challenging match.

Please assess the first assistant referees performance. Minute and Description of the Scene / Assessment of the ARs behaviour No major calls for him but he had 2 offside decisions and 2 other onside which Full time resulted on efforts on goal. Expected level performance. 18 Sanogo (FRA) is onside and has an effort on goal. 31 63 84 Again Sanogo (FRA) is onside and has an effort on goal. Odjer (GHA) is flagged for offside. Correct. Boakye (GHA) is flagged for offside. Correct.

Assistant Referee 2
Please assess the second assistant referees performance. Minute and Description of the Scene / Assessment of the ARs behaviour He was more challenged by his colleague since Frances second goal was onside Full time and there was a situation when the ball was cleared before crossing the goal-line. 33 Assifuah (GHA) is flagged for offside. Correct. 51 51 62 67 78 Bahebeck (FRA) is onside and has an effort on goal. After a Corner-kick and a header by a France player the ball hits the post and is cleared by a defender before crossing the goal-line wholly. Correct play-on. Thauvin (FRA) is in offside position and returns to take the ball. Correct offside. Sanogo (FRA) is onside before scoring. Excellent play-on. Bahebeck (FRA) is flagged for offside. Correct.

Fourth Official
Please assess the fourth officials performance.
