Small description of the match (extra-ordinary incidents etc.): Hseyin Avni Aker Stadium, Trabzon was the setting with approximately 11286 spectors in attendance as Turkey faced Australia in the final game of Group C. A win could take the hosts through to the Round of 16 in first position whereas a draw would be enough for a second place finish. Australia on the other hand needed to disappoint the partisan crowd and pick-up a victory for them to automatically qualify. The first half ended goalless with Australia creating and wasting many goalscoring opportunities. However, seven minutes after the interval, Maclaren gave Australia the lead. Turkey to their credit hit back almost immediately scoring two minutes later through Calhanoglu. Both nations were exchanging blows until the 87th minute whenYokuslu scored what proved to be the winner. As a result of this defeat, Australia are eliminated from the tournament while Turkey qualify for the next phase, finishing Group C in second.

Crucial Decisions (refer to penalty kicks, sending-off situations etc.) Minute and Description of the Scene / Assessment of the referee s decision

Basic Observations (refer to the general application of the LotG, highlight the referee s tactical approach, personality, match control, management of the teams and players, teamwork etc.). Please deploy short but precise and detailed sentences! Positive Points Garca was never far from the action and did very well to keep-up with play when 1. both nations counter attacked. Roberto Garca's approach, just like in his previous outing, was to let the game 2. flow as much as possible. This resulted in very enjoyable game of football for players and fans alike. However, this approach did have its flaws. Garca administered two yellow cards (46' & 83'). Both were undeniably justified and certainly correct. 3. In other situations, Garca opted to speak to offenders warning them about their future conduct which is a refreshing thing to witness. Points for Improvement Garca came across as a bit too lenient in this particular match. A good example of Garca's leniency can be found in the 9th minute where two Australian players were fouled in a matter of seconds. Garca interpreted these challenges as fair, but further replays indicated otherwise. Card management. There were three occasions in the first half were Garca should of administered cautions. Firstly, in the 12th minute: AUS #15 commits a tackle from behind on TUR #21 with no attempt to get the ball. Then, in the 21st minute: TUR #3 cynically pulls back AUS #15 which stops a promising attack. Finally, in the 34th minute: TUR #16 uncontrollably lunges into AUS 15 from behind. In all three of these incidents, a yellow card at the very least should of been administered. However, Garca for some reason chose against producing them.
