Small description of the match (extra-ordinary incidents etc.): Hosting nation Turkey faced their first opponents El Salvador at this Under-20 World Cup and convinced with an easy-going 3:0 victory. Weather and field conditions were good, only 4662 visitors and fans attended the match of their home team though. Nonetheless they created a good atmosphere in some moments. The referee team faced some tough moments here and there so that for each official the match difficulty was between normal and challenging.
After having re-watched the penalty incident in minute 83 with better video footage, the assessment and mark have been changed (from 8.3 to 7.9).

Crucial Decisions (refer to penalty kicks, sending-off situations etc.) Minute and Description of the Scene / Assessment of the referees decision The referee correctly did not award a penalty to Turkey. A Turkish forward received a small contact with an El Salvadorian defender and fell with much delay 20 and too easily. A yellow card for dive would have been even possible, but not mandatory. Another penalty appeal by Turkey, also this time the Brazilian referee waved playon. The El Salvadorian defender clearly hit the forward and then played the ball. 83 Even though the result of 3:0 makes this call more or less irrelevant, it was a blatant error and was evaluated as a crucial mistake.

Basic Observations (refer to the general application of the LotG, highlight the referees tactical approach, personality, match control, management of the teams and players, teamwork etc.). Please deploy short but precise and detailed sentences! Positive Points Very good foul detection. He had a suitable feeling for what was a foul and what 1. was nothing. The referee stayed very attentive until the end and detected nearly every infringement. His overall card management was good. He detected the first more serious foul 2. and immediately punished it with a deserved caution. Doing that he set a clear line that was understandable for the players. Good dealing with the players. He explained his decisions to them with gestures 3. and communication. He was respected. 4. In the end adequate dealing with situations happening in the penalty area. Points for Improvement Despite his good card management, one of the issued bookings was wrong. El Salvadorian Hernndez was booked (65) without clear reason. He obviously 1. thought to have detected a foul with studs-up (the Turkish player also needed treatment), but it was neither an intentional nor a reckless foul. -0.1 for that leading to 8.3. Whistle language. He had no consistent line in blowing the whistle, some longer whistles for small infringements and smaller ones for more serious infringements. 2. He can support his appearance and decision taking on the pitch by improving that.

Further observations (peculiarities of the referee revealing his character) One of his pecularities are his strange whistle language and the fact that he wears his yellow card in the left trouser pocket. He furthermore seems to be a left-hander.

Assistant Referee 1
Please assess the first assistant referees performance. Minute and Description of the Scene / Assessment of the ARs behaviour AR1 Rocha De Matos wrongly disallowed a goal scored by Turkey for an alleged offside position. Replays however showed that it was onside or level. Not so easy 29 to see, but nonetheless a crucial mistake when the score was still 1:0 and the match hence was open. Besides that, he took correct offside decisions e.g. in the 4th or 50th minute. Good full time in assisting the referee in some other moments.

Assistant Referee 2
Please assess the second assistant referees performance. Minute and Description of the Scene / Assessment of the ARs behaviour 63 80 81 Good and not easy NO offside decision preceding Turkeys third goal. He very well detected an offside goal scored by Turkey. Tight decision but correct call. Missed an offside flag for another Turkish striker, also here tight. Very good performance nonetheless.
