Small description of the match (extra-ordinary incidents etc.): This match would have been rather boring without the crucial decisions taken by the referee and the outcome was mainly affected by them. In the rest of the match there were not many differences between the teams and also not many goal scoring opportunities. Three penalties and two sending-offs make clear, it was a very challenging match for the referee, although it generally was a fair game and quite easy to control.

Referee
Crucial Decisions (refer to penalty kicks, sending-off situations etc.) Minute and Description of the Scene / Assessment of the referees decision Penalty for Greece: A shoot was blocked using the arm and afterwards a striker was hit on the foot, so it was not totally clear, what the reason for the penalty was. 32 For the handball, it would have been quite harsh, but probably the foul was punished and so it was a correct decision. Penalty for Uzbekistan and second yellow for Kourmpelis: Two strikers were held by their opponents in the penalty area and both infringements justified a yellow card. The referee decided to book Kourmpelis, who was then sent off. Maybe it 60 would have been more elegant to book the other defender instead, but Doue obviously was not aware of Kourmpelis first card. However, the sending-off was acceptable, as well as the penalty No Penalty for Greece: The decision is OK, because the defender plays the ball, 78 difficult to see for the referee. He missed a foul by the striker himself immediately before. Penalty for Uzbekistan: The foul was clear, but the handling of the situation was not good: 1. He should have waited a second for a possible advantage, a goal 82 attempt was not allowed; 2. He booked the wrong player first, but then corrected it, probably adviced by his assistant. 3. A red card for DOGSO would have been the better choice. 85 Second yellow for Yuldashov: Clearly correct caution for a tactical foul.

Basic Observations (refer to the general application of the LotG, highlight the referees tactical approach, personality, match control, management of the teams and players, teamwork etc.). Please deploy short but precise and detailed sentences! Positive Points 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Very good awareness of situations in the penalty area (see crucial decisions) Good control, achieved by effective warnings and a self-confident appearance Apart from the big decisions, he managed to stay in the background. He always was calm and did not behave as strange as in his first match. Well improved! His style fitted well to the needs of the game Good handling of the time wasting by Uzbekistan, first warning, then also booking (79), and an adequate additional time. Good awareness for the correct position of the ball at free kicks.

Points for Improvement In the first half, his card management was not satisfying. He was very (maybe 1. too) lenient, but showed a very soft first yellow card to Kourmpelis. In the second half, his card management was better. 2. The circumstances around the third penalty (82), see grid above. 3. His foul detection was so-so, not on the high level of his general performance.

The referees character Physical Aspects Fitness / Stamina Always close to play without inferfering with it Flexible diagonal movement Positioning at set pieces Efficient positioning, having a good angle of vision to play Close to the penalty area, if needed Tactical Approach Description very lenient lenient X X medium X Yes Consistency in the tactical approach / style The tactical approach suited to the requirements of the match / the match benefitted from the tactical approach of the referee Ability to adapt the tactical approach if needed X X X So-so No strict very strict + Expected X X X X -

Further observations (peculiarities of the referee revealing his character) He seemed to have learned after his first match and improved his appearance on the field, being calmer and not looking for attention. However he was ready to take the big decisions and did not choose the easy way to ignore them. This made it a very good performance, although there are still a couple of things to improve.
