Undermining JNU, Jawaharlal Nehru University, may be a small act in the big history of our nation, and its long term significance may escape us. However, if we stepped back a bit from the flow of everyday politics and stepped into the history of the rise and fall of nations, we would soon discover the perils of this mindless act. JNU has a special place in the world of ideas. Looking at its last 50 years, we see a continuous workshop in progress where the modernist project of an independent India was being forged.
