Race views from the trail world

Happy banter at Rhodes Run stops halfway along the 52km route when participants reach the infamous Mavis Bank.

“From the top, the view would have taken my breath away even if the altitude hadn’t,” said Kim Stephens after running Rhodes for the first time this year. Dirkie Moolman’s 1995 record for summitting Mavis Bank still stands at 1h53min! Runners passed this frozen pond near Lesotho View, after Mavis Bank.

BASTILLE DAY

A range of distances from 15km to 50km at Salomon Bastille Day Trail Run attracted the Cape’s best!

Ryan Sandes reminded everyone of his pro status by winning the 50km event in 4h33min. Julian Atkinson and Alban Martinez followed in quick succession. Mags Wright won the women’s 50km in 6h14min, with a substantial gap on Brenna Coupland and Helen Mearns.

“This was my first Bastille Day Trail Run and was the toughest race I had yet completed,” said Brenna Coupland (pictured).
