FIRST impressions really count to young people and I alluded to this in more depth on page 4 in this month’s editorial. Those stories stand alone but there was another strong influencer for me and that was Max Turner who was another of the catalysts for my love of hot rodding. Cast your mind back to 1972: I watched Max arrive at the Airstravaganza event at Ardmore in his eye-catching T-bucket dubbed “Purple Haze” which had just hit the scene: I’d seen it in NZHRM’s Aug ’71 issue and suddenly there it was in front of my eyes.
