A HOME RUN

IT’S been almost ninety years since Henry Ford and his crew released what has become a legendary body design. So much water has gone under the bridge, so many renditions of the favoured 5-window coupe have emerged and so many have been rescued or reproduced that it’s now safe to say the 1933-‘34 Ford 5-Window coupe’s reputation is lasered into granite, never to be reversed or undone. Not one person would ever criticise another for liking, owning or cosseting the revered bodyissues eventually also prevented him from achieving his vision so it was for that reason the car appeared on eBay. Ron lives in Surrey, BC, Canada so had the car shipped by covered trailer to his home. When it arrived the rolling body was packed full of additional parts, fenders, running boards, you name it, it was in there. A 350/350 combo sat between the original frame rails resting on a 4-bar, dropped axle front end and 9” rear. Mounts were all complete, but nothing was hooked up. Much of the car’s components, including the body were in excellent shape (except the original front fenders) but Ron thought the car sat too high and noticed the diff was mounted in crooked. The dropped axle was a tad wide so it was sold and replaced with a narrower version, the multi-leaf spring was replaced by a mono-leaf and right away the car took on a much better stance. The TH350 trans was pulled and sold to make way for a World Class T5 5-speed trans which Ron prefers. The original Ford front fenders were dented and would have required major repairs, so he sold them and bought steel repro fenders. The frame was in excellent shape so it was retained under the original body which was expertly metal-finished and gapped.
