Altitude sickness is a very sly illness, since the lack of oxygen cannot be seen clearly.
The various forms of altitude related illnesses and the effects of thin air at high altitude are only starting to be understood by scientists. But we do know when it may occur, what the symptoms are, and mostly how to prevent it.
Defining altitude sickness
In short and in very simple terms, the higher above sea level one goes, the less and less air there is to breath. Oxygen, the vital component for humans to breathe, also decreases proportionately. This lack of oxygen causes changes in the human body, including a drop in the blood’s pH level
