ENGINEERING: NEW FACE OF TECHNOLOGY

As a professional course, engineering has been one of the most sought after career choices in India after 10+2, with more than 10 lakh students appearing for the JEE Main every year. With traditional engineering disciplines such as mechanical engineering, civil engineering and electrical engineering forming the base, new branches have emerged in last few years. For example, automobile engineering is an extension of mechanical engineering, and mechatronics is an amalgamation of traditional fields such as mechanical and electrical engineering, mathematics, and computer science or information technology. "Immersive technology, blockchain, Internet of things, machine learning and bots are trends taking the world by storm and driving growth for companies in India as well. With the rapidly evolving ecosystem, India is becoming a space for deep innovation in the tech field," says Manish Prateek, Dean, School of Engineering, UPES, Dehradun. Thus, engineering is a multi-disciplined field which includes the study of science and technology combined with design and machine learning. With hands-on training through compulsory internships and incubator training programmes, part of these engineering courses have really evolved. From construction of a road to manufacturing automobile, and from multinational companies to healthcare and banking, engineers are in demand in almost every field.
