BOB Prior first drag-raced a Suzuki GT750L ‘water bottle’ at Castlereagh drag strip in western Sydney in 1974, sponsored by his employer, Northcott Motorcycles, in Blacktown, where Bob worked as a mechanic. “I did a 12.7 (seconds) on it,” he says of his best pass. “I then raced it as an altered and ran 10.7 sec at 123mph in 1977.”

He drag-raced other bikes (always Suzukis) until the late 1990s, then switched his attention to salt racing on Lake Gairdner, where he set a new DLRA class
