Last summer I visited Turners Auto Wrecking of Fresno, California, where I was shocked to find a collection of 200 Imperials crammed into the corner of its 70-acre site. I asked the elderly yard owner about them, but he glossed over the question, muttering something about them belonging to someone else. I could tell that he didn’t want to talk about them, so I changed the subject. Knowing what I know now, I wish I’d been more persistent with my line of enquiry.
