wave of cold Atlantic water crashes over the side of the research vessel, dousing the scientists standing on deck from head to toe. In their red wet-weather gear, orange lifejackets, and blue safety helmets, they appear ready for anything. But nothing protects against the onslaught of rogue waves. As the water recedes, they slosh around in their boots and return to the task at hand: listening to the ocean and its inhabitants. Their lander is ready to go. The size of a Smart car, it has scientific equipment mounted next to its bright orange floats and communication beacon.
