Quick questions & answers

Q Do plants need feeding when they have gone dormant?

Joyce Marchant, Stirling

A The simple answer is that it is not necessary to feed plants when they are dormant. They are just ticking over during the winter. Wait until growth resumes in spring before feeding.

Q Can you identify this plant for me, please?

Anne Mulholland, via email

A This is a large-flowered form of mock orange (philadelphus), probably ‘Belle Étoile’.
