UNDERSTANDING STUD BOOK VOL. 89

There is so much information contained in Arabian Horse World’s Stud Book Research Volume 89 that one needs to dissect it carefully to understand the implications of all the names and numbers that point towards where the breed is moving and where it has been.

Before jumping into current trends revealed in this volume, it is interesting to look at the historical numbers associated with the all-time leading sires and the sire lines they represent. This list contains the names of over 150 stallions siring more than 250 foals in their lifetimes. Most people read these names and see a connection occasionally between sires and colts, but they do not see the bigger picture of how all these stallions only represent 13 sire lines. And, of these thirteen, four lines (Ofir, Nazeer, Skowronek, and *Mirage) represent over 88 percent of the production for these leading sires lines.
