THE BIGGER PICTURE

During the course of this year, I have considered various thematic aspects of the Southern African wildlife ranching and associated wildlife enterprises in relation to current significant events that may affect them. I highlighted how the wildlife industry is shaped by political movements, which are underpinned by social and economic factors, and how the industry is further influenced by evolving technologies and legal frameworks. I also noted that Southern African wildlife management policy is in something of a state of flux amidst ongoing disputes over appropriate industry standards and practices relating to activities such as commercial breeding, trophy hunting and international trade in live animals and their body parts.
