Good Things Come in Threes

TAKING THE DESIGN CHALLENGE in Your Turn in the August 2017 issue of this magazine, I sketched a pendant featuring a triangular cut purple CZ, which was published that December. I was inspired to finalize a design and execute it. This necklace, which I call Garnet Glory, is the result.

I love trillion cut stones, especially deep, dark, red garnets. What better way to emphasize the shape and color than to use triangles for the design and silver for the metal! The shiny silver and the textured triangles add interest and contrast that make a simple design look complicated.

Although it should take just two or three hours to make this necklace, it took me longer: I couldn’t decide whether to leave it smooth or texture it. Once I decided on texturing, I tried several different combinations before I
