Baltic bucks

It’s insanely hot as we hurry along the deserted road on that first morning. It has already started to get light, and on some of the fields we pass, roe deer are active. However, we are not yet in the hunting area, which is why our hunting guide Oscars Ivans constantly keeps his eyes on the road instead of the bucks in the fields.

As the guide turns off the engine and leave everything around us silent, he identifies a large meadow. This is our hunting area for the morning. He says he will let Jens himself take the lead in hunting this field, while he, the guide, stays with the car and waits.

This might not be how a guided hunt usually works, but in this case, it’s ok – Jens is an experienced hunter and he wants to call the bucks personally and to decide which location to call from. In other words: Jens wants to do things all his own way.
