A family of fighters

Sitting opposite the consultant after a routine mammogram, I smiled nervously.

‘All OK?’ I asked. It was April 2015 and I’d been having the screenings every year for a decade.

But they never got any less petrifying. Especially with my family history…

My mum Barbara, 77, had fought off breast cancer back in 2003.

My nan Rose and great nan Annie, both had it before then, too.

It meant I always made sure I went to checkups.

But it didn’t prepare me
