Jyoti Mama, You Can Bet!
LA based multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and producer Georgia Anne Muldrow’s brilliant third album under her solo jazz project alias, is a and 2010’s with a new Jyoti record that includes her own voice for the first time. Soulful, emotive and full of wisdom, Muldrow’s enigmatic vocals injects yet more personality into her already vivacious music. More jazz-focused than her previous albums, also touches on blues, hip-hop, soul and groove, all wrapped in her elegant style. Beautiful, reflective, haunting, angry and joyful, the record explores the experiences of being black in America with an unflinching eye. Some songs are stripped back, allowing her words to hit with more emphasis. Muldrow handles all the instrumental, production and recording duties, with the exception of saxophonist Lakeica Benjamin on one track. Her production techniques add a modern aesthetic that complements her piano-led jazz excursions to perfection. Further evidence of Muldrow’s brilliance.
