Yet, when made for a wedding, baked in batches of 50 or more and carefully stacked on a serving tray to form a giant, glimmering white mound of crescents, they become especially beautiful. Baking is an act of love, but for me, what makes kourabiedes so remarkable is that they are made , to celebrate it—something my a, which means “grandmother” in Greek, has taught me to do every day.
