Stomping down the stairs, my youngest son Jacob, 12, had a face like thunder. ‘Muuuuuuum, Grandad locked himself in the toilet again!’ It was my dad’s favourite trick when he wanted a bit of peace and quiet. He’d take himself off to the loo with a newspaper, lock the door and stay there.
Jacob and his older brothers Ben, 20, and Josh, 22, couldn’t understand it. They’d hammer on the door for attention.
