THE LISTENING POST
~ There once was a time when Radio Moscow seemed to occupy ALL of the HF frequencies except for those used by Radio Rodina, Radiostansiya Atlantica, Radio Station Peace and Progress (Paz y Progresso) and the rest of the others in the USSR’s on-air fleet. Today, however, Russia’s portion of the Word Radio TV Handbook (WRTH) takes up less than a full column in the international section of that annual standard reference book, versus what had been several pages in the past.
~ I’ve been noticing a gradual dropoff of logs from Brazil, whether it’s messy propagation or just general DXer disinterest, I’m not at all certain the downhill slide exists. One of the several stations still on the air is Radio Congonhas from Sao Paulo on 4775 kHz.
~ Radio Nyawa Sarawak, active for about a decade on shortwave (lately on 11890 kHz), is in trouble. The pirate station, now called Radio Free Sarawak and headed by British TV journalist Clare Newcastle Brown, was apparently cautioned or temporarily closed down by the Borneo (Malaysia) state government.
Some activity from mostly shortwave-silent Chile: Radio Trifunal Evangelica can be heard on 5825 kHz from 2200-0000 UTC. Good luck hearing this one because it only uses 500 watts and that time slot will
