Eat, drink and be merry – it’s what Christmas is all about. But if you’re one of the 13 million Brits who suffers from IBS, it can be a nightmare. All the rich, indulgent food on offer, not to mention get-togethers and endless booze, can spell disaster for your gut.

‘IBS is a functional gastrointestinal condition that affects the bowel, and results in constipation, diarrhoea, bloating, abdominal pain and often fatigue,’ explains Yvonne McKenzie, clinical dietitian and specialist in gastrointestinal nutrition and IBS. While there is currently
