Is surgery an option for my heel spur?

Q My partner and I spent some time with my daughter in the Lakes and did a lot of walking. I developed a pain in my heel, which I put down to the increase in exercise, but we’ve been back home resting for several days and it’s no better. My GP is arranging an X-ray, as he suspects I may have a spur. If that’s the case, will I need surgery?
