SWEET SUCCESS

Marc Hirschi blended into the colorful peloton as he stood on the start line in Nice and awaited the start of the 2020 Tour de France. For fans following the race at home, Hirschi was just another thin man in lycra; a baby-faced rider with no star power and a funny last name.
Twenty three days later, Hirschi (pronounced Hershey) rode into Paris as the newest star of the sport, and the latest hero of Swiss cycling. Credit this transformation to the power of the Tour, as well as the power in Hirschi’s legs. He spent much of the race on the attack, accelerating into daylong breakaways and into decisive moves, alike. The aggression netted him one solo stage victory, a near-miss at the hands of Julian Alaphilippe, and a third place behind GC stars Tadej Pogačar and Primož
