Clever grids for smart schooling PART 2

GRIDWORK IS SUCH a powerful tool for developing horses and there’s a grid for every occasion — for suppleness, for balance, to improve turning and so on. They teach horses to be agile, accurate and athletic, and help riders to perfect their position over a course of fences and develop an eye for distances.

In a nutshell, gridwork makes jumping easier, says trainer John Thelwall. The aim isn’t to build big fences, but to improve confidence and ability in both you and your horse — in fact, some of the most effective grids don’t even ask you to leave the ground.
