Moving towards the light

HE start of February is invariably cold, misty and damp, expressed so succinctly by that splendidly onomatopoeic Scots word ‘dreich’. A dreich situation is one that has become dreary, monotonous, drawn-out and boring, which perfectly describes a winter that has gone on for too long and become detestable, both in terms of the weather and the endless tiers and lockdowns. With inland game shooting finishing on the first of the month, I think we should raise our hats in gratitude to all the gamekeepers and hunt servants
