    I’ve always been partial to the Ardèche region, a dry and dusty plateau of middle mountains, camper vans, scrubby trees, hot summers and challenging cuisine, which I remember from family holidays in my teens. But last year was my first opportunity first-hand to see the two one-day races that have grown into a brilliant weekend of cycling, based in Valence, which straddles the Rhône valley between the Ardèche and Drôme areas.
