DRY RIESLING
93 Schäfer-Fröhlich 2018 Vulkangestein Riesling Trocken (Nahe). Smoke and struck flint introduce this spicy, intensely mineral dry Riesling sourced from volcanic soils. It’s gorgeously steely but packed with zesty grapefruit, lime and lemon flavors as well. Slim in profile yet penetrating on the palate, it’s a wine that should improve well through 2028 and hold further. The German Wine Collection. Editors’ Choice. —A.I.

93 Villa Wolf 2013 Forster Pechstein Library Release Dry Riesling (Pfalz). Glorious whiffs of petrichor and pristine white peach abound on this deeply concentrated library release. Full-bodied and still fresh in demeanor, it offers a lovely combination of bright peach and lemon flavors against delicate maturity notes of earth, smoke and brine. A tug of tannins extends the finish along with a piercing strike of acidity. Lovely now but should continue to gain interesting subtleties through the decade. Loosen Bros. USA. —A.I.
