DNF at 44%. The signature slow burn chemistry the IAD series is known for just didn't work for this particular book and the pacing is unnecessarily slow. Will they or won't they? I don't care anymore, I'm bored.

Wow! My new favorite in the IAD series.

Ellie is my favorite character of memory. She's stubborn, strong-willed, lusty with no remorse, and loyal as all get out.

While Lothaire The Enemy of Old is the most feared vampire of the Lore. He's clueless when it comes to females. Which promises a rocky journey to happiness.

I loved this story and pretty much read it straight through. Not your typical romance since Lothaire treats Elizabeth pretty bad for the first part of the story. However, watching him redeem himself was truly lovely. He was a very different character since he was slightly insane. Elizabeth was amazing and very well developed. You also can't help but love her family when they prove how much they love her. Lots of great dialogue which made me really feel like I got to know the characters. Super steamy and a very interesting story. Guest visits from some of my favorite characters were entertaining.

The character development was irresponsible! I could NOT put this book down! The book had me laughing it loud at times as well as crying! The artful language of the book and having it read by the narrator was perfection. This is a fantastic read and I'm just sad now that its over :)

Another great read in IAD series. I have not read all the books, or in order, and I still enjoyed this story. Lothaire & Ellie has many hurdles to overcome before they got their HEA. I enjoyed the many characters in this story, especially Nix. She is the one in all these books that I can’t wait to figure her out. I’ looking forward to reading more books in this fabulous series. I enjoyed the narration in this audible presentation.

This being my second book reading about vampires (the other being Dracula,) I really liked it! I thought the plot was wonderful, in how Lothaire evolved to seeing love and logic above vengeance and hate. The book seemed like 98.239949% sex and 1.760051% story, so I think it could have been more interesting/ benefitted from more story. Other than that, the book got me acquainted with creatures of fantasy and folklore, and how interesting their lives can be.

Some aspects I really liked and then others just irritated me. I'm always interested to see how a character who has been a villainous figure in previous books will be treated in his own. I figured I would end up warming to this one, but I hadn't expected to empathize with him so much practically from the very start. It's a wonder what a difference a backstory can make. The book started kind of losing my interest in the second and third quarters though, it just felt so late in the book for the characters to still be acting that foolishly. I was hoping for a little growth or something after the entire journey up to that point. It ended up finally coming around a bit in the end though, so overall it's somewhere in the middle for me

    Lothaire
    4 Stars

An entertaining addition to the IAD series although there are some irritating elements.

What can one say about Lothaire? He's magnificent yet evil, cunning and intelligent yet ruthless and cold-blooded. Since the beginning of the series, he has been the most intriguing of all Loreans and we finally get his backstory and explanations for his behavior.

The Saroya/Ellie storyline is interesting but not as intense as it could have been. In contrast, the revelations in the overall story arc are compelling, especially the insights into Nix's machinations, and the introduction of the Dacians.

The romance has its ups and downs. Ellie is a wonderful heroine, feisty and courageous with a stubborn streak that drives Lothaire round the twist. There are one or two moments when she could have had more backbone but all in all, she gives Lothaire a run for his money and it is fun to see him so confounded.

The biggest problem, however, is that despite his infatuation with her, Lothaire views Ellie as inferior and unworthy of his attentions for much of the book. He even wishes his Bride were someone else. Moreover, he constantly belittles and dictates to her and even turns her into a vampire against her will. Yes, he ultimately learns to love and accept her but the timing is problematic why couldn't he have accepted her as she was before changing her?

The secondary cast are intriguing and we will hopefully see more of Thaddeus, Balery and Nix, not to mention Furie and Kristoff as well as Lothaire's Dacian cousins. Lots to look forward to in future installments.

I am giving it four stars, but the real rating is more like three and a half.

I was incredibly excited about Lothaire's story, but I was a bit let down by the time I finished reading it. I think Kresley Cole must've had this idea that the Enemy of Old could rise to the occasion and be the guy his Bride needed him to be. It backfired. He was arrogant, cocky, not the least bit attractive and sometimes he was just plain cruel and mean. Ellie on the other hand was INCREDIBLE! She was amazing from head to toe, beginning to end. She had spice, spunk, a backbone and she was just plain good. Maybe that was the contrast we were supposed to see: they are complete opposites and they attract.

The relationship was very, very well written. Plenty of chemistry to go round, and this one of the most sexual books so far. World building and plot just keep getting better and better with each book that comes out. Can't wait for more!

    EXCELLENT!

The man cut out his heart and sent it to his bride... in return, she cut off her middle finger and literally gave him the bird. You have to love that level of dysfunction!!

I've hated Lothaire throughout this whole series, and I can NOT believe that I understand and (almost) like him now. All hail Kresley... queen of the turnaround!

This was a hard book for me to get through. I just kept getting SO frustrated with Lothaire and I truly hated Saroya. By about midway through though, I was SO hooked! I was at the edge of my seat wondering if he'd make the right decisions, could he get out of his vows, would Nix be any help at all. It was an emotional roller coaster. I also couldn't help but LOVE Elizabeth from the very beginning. I was a tad disappointed with the cliff hanger at the end, however, I've got the next couple books to read, so I think I'll live.

Good, but it's slightly too long due it being somewhat predictable. The few short scenes with Nucking Futs Nix make it all worth while, though.

I love how Ms. Cole keeps Lothaire the anti-hero while giving him a soft side. I adore Elizabeth, she is a bit of a hokie but she is strong and I love that she everything Lothaire never imagined for his mate.

I hate that demon thing inside her, this book starts out crazy. I like the interaction between Lothaire and Elizabeth, not so much that demon thing.

I did think the ending was a bit too big red bow. Everything worked out so smooth and perfect, just seemed too easy.

I was torn -- how could the Enemy of Old be a hero? I shouldn't have doubted. Lothaire is every bit as wonderful as her other Immortals After Dark novels. Lothaire is arrogant and driven, but Elizabeth is so tough, and ornery she goes toe-to-toe with the bad boy. I did wish I hadn't read the very last scene, but only because Kresley leaves us hanging with the action plot after wrapping the Romance up into pretty little bows and I want the next book now!

Kresley Cole is a master at interweaving her book story lines together. This one is no exception and it leaves the door open for more intrigue in the Lore for the next installments. However, this is a long book and the plot does get a little tiresome and the 3 chapter sex scenes get boring. Yes, 3 chapters for one go! I had really looked forward to reading Lothaire's story and his background is interesting, but he is quite the prat. I expected him to be strong and bullheaded but not quite so selfish. It does make sense that he would be though given his background. He seems to change and get his act together very quickly, but that's how romances usually go. All in all, it's a very typical Cole romance.

Kresley Cole never fails to amaze me.
As a reader I'm in love with this plot- I mean The leading male is rough, tough, mean, and how so sexy. Secretly romantic in one of the most outrageous ways I have ever read.

The leading female- A hillbilly mountain woman- she has a mouth that can run circles around him and knows how to set him off in the most amazing ways.

As a writer- I'm in awe of her ability to take something like a vampire and a human and twist their world and their minds into such a state that when it comes right down to it I never saw it coming.

If you like darker romance with a heavy dose of love, lust, and twisted...this is your book.

So what can be said about Lothaire? This is one of the stories that twist and turn over and under and round and round. I guess that is appropriate for Lothaire since he has manipulated others’ lives over the centuries. I had hoped that Lothaire would find someone that would keep him on his toes. He finds that and so much more. Elizabeth is smart and quick thinking on her feet. She is beautiful and spirited as well as practical as so many country people have learned to be. She has never had much but she has dreamed of a better life than her mother and other relatives have had. She has worked to put herself through college and done a job while she was there. She is determined and stubborn to a fault. That is probably one of the things that save her life after Saroya takes up residence in Elizabeth’s body. I had to chuckle that Lothaire thought he deserved a goddess as his Bride. He is so very arrogant and so sure of his self. He learns the hard way that things aren’t what they seem. When he learns that he hasn’t been betrayed by Elizabeth or Nix is worth the whole book. I am sure that his insanity has made him miss more than one indicator that things aren’t what they seem to be. There are so many wonderful characters in this book. We get to see more of Thad (half vampire/half phantom), he is such a gentleman and so determined to befriend Lothaire. We see the Hag again and learn that her name is Balery and we also learn some of her history.Lothaire has been around for centuries and is on the verge of insanity. He has made so many enemies that he is paranoid as well as insane. The one thing that has saved him is that he finds his Bride. I was amazed how much Elizabeth settled him the longer she was with him. I am not sure is really evil just drifting toward the line of crazy that has others in an asylum. He has been betrayed so many times that he trusts no one and he makes Elizabeth’s life miserable for a time because of that paranoia. Lothaire's other problem is that he is very handsome and he knows it. This makes him way too cocky. So sure that he can have any woman that he meets he never develops any social skills were woman are concerned. It was entertaining when he realized that Elizabeth was really his Bride not Saroya. I was glad that Elizabeth was able to turn Lothaire off the path that he had been heading down. She shows him what happiness and caring is.Elizabeth is one of those people that gets mad and does things that she regrets later. She can’t think when she is angry. She is also naive about men and how to handle them. There is also very little compromise in either Lothaire or her. I loved that Elizabeth was able to surprise Lothaire. She kept him off balance and wondering what the heck happened to him. She is also very passionate, even before Lothaire finds a way to change her into a vampire female. It is amazing how hot these two are when they finally get together. They burn up the pages with each and every encounter. This book is longer than any of the others of course there is more going on. There are also a number of plots that were not solved in this story. It will be interesting to see what happens to La Dorada. I hope that Nix finds a way to deal with her. There is also the problem of Commander Webb and what has become of him. Melanthe is still missing. The Valkyrie is still looking for Fury. We have gotten a clear idea of what Thad’s powers are just a lot of people looking scare when they find out what he is. Finally there is what Lothaire is going to do about Emma and Kristoff. So I guess I better go off and start the next book.

Considering this was Lothaire's book I was expecting something a lot better. Still, it wasn't bad but the whole crazy scenario of Ellie, this hillbilly from West Virginia and sophisticated killer Lothaire hooking up together, well I can't help wondering if the author was just pulling a big joke on her audience - Lothaire himself. Clever. Overall, I enjoyed it and there were definitely some hot moments, but not what I expected. My first audio in the IAD series, a new experience for me, and not the last.

I know I've read this story before, kidnapped heroine falls for her captor, but everything was so perfect it all felt new. Lothaire is evil and I'm glad he stayed evil till the end. I'm surprised at how much I liked Ellie. Even though she was a human she was perfect for Lothaire. Nix had some vaulnerable moments here and I hope she gets a HEA soon. New vampires were introduced and the next book was set up, can't wait to see what happens next.

Possessed by an ancient, bloodthirsty, and completely virginal goddess, Ellie Pierce keeps waking up covered in blood and body parts. Condemned and scheduled for an execution she has no intent of appealing, she's rescued at the eleventh hour by her possessor's Blooded mate, the red-eyed vampire Lothaire. Trapped in his New York apartment, Ellie's only hope of thwarting Lothaire's plan to sacrifice her sole so his mate can take her body permanently, is making him like - no, LOVE - her. Making Lothaire, the Enemy of Old, likable may have been Cole's biggest challenge to date. Not my favorite in the series, but Ellie is a hoot.

Ahhhh!!!! Fantastic story. Probably the best in the series.

I LOVE how Elizabeth handles him throughout the story. Always somehow half a step ahead of him. Only as in true relationships, communication is the key. And they both think they know best.

    Perfect.

So... Kristof is next? I wonder... and wouldn't it be funny if Lothaire's cousin is his bride? lol

A roller coaster of a read. I loved it. I am so thoroughly satisfied with all of the Immortals After Dark series and this was just more icing on that cake. I have to say that I had read a few reviews for this book and some of the descriptions about his mate really had me worried that I wouldn't like her. I shouldn't have worried...this is Kresley Cole after-all. What a perfect match, ultimately! I could read this again, right now.

Re-reading in prep for Shadow Claim.

I love this series, and that said... it was great, just not as great as some of the others. This is a total judgement compared to her other books in this series. I just didn't get the chemistry as with some of the others, with them as it ran so hot/cold and there was a loll in the story where I was just trying to get to the next interesting/exciting bit. Other than those complaints, it truly was great 4 1/2 if I could have a half star. The end made the whole story more than worth it any loll. It was one of the absolute best endings with lots in the air, woo hoo! More books to come.
