Reminded me of National Treasure for kids. The books include history and feature a brother and sister team so it would be good for boys and girls. Good step up for kids who like Magic Treehouse or A to Z Mysteries.

It was an okay book. I can't help but compare it to the Percy Jackson series. The Percy Jackson series was definitely better than 39 clues. I'm still hoping that this one will get better as the series progresses since the premise is actually very good.

I really like this book along with the rest of the series but it isn't one of those books that you can read one then wait a couple of months then read the rest .If you plan to read the whole series (which I would highly recommend) you will want to read them on right after the other.

This series was brought to my attention by a friend and I'm so glad they did! Not only does each book contain an action packed story that will keep an adults attention they contain great lessons for the young audience they were intended to reach. If you have kids in the 7-12 age range don't miss these...and if you are a kid at heart, read them yourself.

Diddappointing. I've read all the Riordan books. This is the least exciting plot and least plausable for even kids to follow.I understand the sequence is created with opportunities for kids to go online. However, the book does not stand well on its own due to unlikely repetition in plot events. I cannot see anyone getting excited about slogging through 39 clues when the first book only got past the first and partway into the second clue. The cover scene does not exist in the story. No bones are scattered or flung through the air, but neatly stacked in piles or walls. Also none of the bones encountered in the story contained only skulls and thigh bones as seen on the cover. Perhaps the illustrator thinks the kids would be too dull to notice that.I enjoyed the Percy Jackson series and also the first book on the Egyptian gods, and recommend those but not this one. I also recommend the excelent adult mystery series centered in south Texas.

Probably the best mystery and intense book i have read in 2010. This book was amazing and very intense. The book always lead you to cliff hangers at the end of the chapter. But once you read the first episode, you can't stop reading to the next series. First you will get addicted, second you can't stop because you are so clueless what will happen next but than you have so many thoughts in your head what would happen. I strongly recommend this book to readers who like mystery and action.

This book is the beginning of a 10-book series featuring several renowned authors of young adult and children literature. The story about Amy and Dan, members of a large and influential family, take part in a quest to find the 39 Clues to become the most powerful Cahill's in history. A younger version of the DaVinci Code or National Treasure, children will enjoy the mystery, suspense action and adventure offered in this story. With a little bit of history thrown into the mix, this book will appeal to a wide range of children. Read as part of our children's book group (7-12 years old).

An interesting start to a series. I like the premise of this series, a little bit Amazing Race (original version, when the show challenged the contestants with difficult clues) and the writing of Dan Brown. I read this book without the aid of the cards, and did not feel like I was missing something, which I think is a good thing. I am looking forward to moving forward with this series to see what happens next in the lives of Amy and Dan.

The first two of 39 clues are revealed in an intriguing adventure of family secrets and historical figures like Benjamin Franklin. A familiar formula, a grandmother leaves a strange will behind that leaves family members scrambling for clues to fortune and power. The story follows a brother and sister team as they play sleuths to history and find their lives endanged by members of their own family. For readers who like a little mix of DaVinci Code and Hardy Boy's, this book is fairly entertaining.

This is the first book in a wonderful series about two orphaned children in a hunt for 39 clues that will hopefully make them rich and powerful. The great thing about this series is that each book is written by a different author.

The Maze of Bones is the first book of the 39 Clues series, with a variety of authors contributing titles. There is plenty of action here and historical details relating to Ben Franklin add interest. Unfortunately, the fast-moving plot line has been given priority over character development. Riordan's sense of humour will appeal to many readers.

Very fast paced, very fun. I'll be honest - I'm really rooting for this series to do well. With real prizes and a collectible card game attached to the book series, I can see this series having a significant impact on getting young boys to read again. There are so few excellent books available for boys, and fewer still that will keep their attention in this fast-paced world, and that's why I think this book series concept is such a fantastic idea. Adventure, real cards to trade, a website with real clues and prizes... whoever came up with this concept is a genius. Even having different authors write each book... so when a kid likes their writing in this series, they can go find the other things each author has written! Genius, I tell you...As for the first book itself? It's a lot of fun. Non-stop action, interesting characters... I felt like I was reading a kids' book edition of a National Treasure movie. Can't wait to pick up #2.(Review written in January 2009, but somehow I forgot to post it up here too!)

Grade: 4-6Genre: MysteryThemes: History, Travel, trustDan and Amy Cahil are on a quest to find the clues that will change the world. When thier aunt died, each member of the Cahill family was given a choice to go on the quest or be given a million dollars to just go away. Dan and Amy accepted the challenge. That challenge has taken them on a journey to Paris to follow in Ben Franklin's footsteps. There is a lot of history explained throughout this story. I enjoyed this book and did it as a read aloud during our study of mysteries. The student's loved this book. I was hoping that others would pick up others in the series but it has not happened yet. They wanted me to read the next one but I left that up to them individually. There was a lot of information about Ben Franklin which I did not understand. It would be really interesting to look up his life and connect it to the information in the story.

This is a great story! It starts out kinda slow, but that is important to the rest of the story. After the action kicks in, it's pretty much nonstop through this book and the rest of the series!

What a great idea for a book! Amy and Dan are brother and sister and they have to make a big choice. They can either collect 1 Million Dollars each, or so on an adventure. They decide to go on the adventure, and they had no idea what they're in for. They're involved in a world wide race. The only way they can know where to go is to solve clues that are hard and very dangerous. Many times, their lives are in danger. The people who are racing against them are member of their own family, and most of the members of the family, Dan and Amy never knew. Dan and Amy's family is very famous. Everyone who is famous in history is part of their family in one way or another. This is a really good series and has some interesting puzzles to solve. Over all, it will hold your attention.

Davinci Code for Young People! I really enjoyed this and had to stop myself from reading ahead of my 3rd grader. Nice detail, fun story, if slightly unbelievable. The kids can solve the mystery in each one! We didn't go online, but I see the appeal.

This is the first book in a ten book series. It revolves around a family called the Cahills, who are wealthy and are on the hunt to find the 39 Clues that will lead them to ultimate power. There are four branchs of the Family, and each has their own strengths and weakness. Lucians (spys, intelligence), Janus (celebrity, fame), Ekats (doctors, science, inventors) and Tomas (sports, athletic ability). Then there is the generic Cahills which do not know exactly what branch they come from. And this series follows a orphaned brother and sister who are in the generic family branch. The series follows Amy and Dan Cahill, who have been orphaned and have been requested by their late grandmother Grace to go on a quest of a lifetime and find the 39 Clues, before any of the other branchs do. They are joined by their au pair Nellie and thier cat Saladin. Amy and Dan start off on a journey that will not only take them all over the word but through history and their own past. The first book introduces the characters and the rules of the game that are needed to fully understand where the rest of the series is going. This is a great series for kids as many historical figures are talked about, as well as geography and science. It has action, adventure, personal triumphs and some tradgedies. What also makes this a great series is each book comes with a set of cards that can be used by visiting the 39 Clues website, where you the reader can become a Cahill and join in the hunt. There are interactive games, clues, and puzzles that can be found that truely makes this a once in a lifetime event for kids of all ages.

When Dan and Amy Cahill's grandmother dies, they've lost the last blood relative who really cared about them. And they're also thrown into a deadly scavenger hunt, The 39 Clues. Members of the enormous Cahill family can choose to receive a million-dollar inheritance or the chance to solve the 39 Clues and inherit the power and fortune that the Cahills have built up over hundreds of years. Dan and Amy choose the clue and thus begins their whirlwind journey. I did not expect to like this one as much as I did, but it was fabulous! The action is non-stop, taking Dan and Amy (and their au pair Nellie) from Boston to Philadelphia to Paris in search of the next clue. The other members of the Cahill family, who are also searching for the clue, will stop at nothing to find it. Most impressive is that Riordan weaves in such interesting information about a particular historical figure without it ever seeming like he's trying to get you to learn something. The audio recording was fantastic - David Pittu is a master of accents and voices. This would make a GREAT audiobook for a family road trip, especially with boys (but girls, too!). I think the mystery is something the whole family could get into.

This book was really good! I've always thought that this book was a computer game or something, but then I realized it was actually a book! And a good one at that! Amy and Dan Cahill just learnt that the Cahill family is the most wide spread family in the world, and helped to shape civilization itself! Benjamin Franklin, Mozart, Issac Newton, and more are all part of the family! Now Amy and Dan has to figure out all 39 clues to get to a treasure, that'll make them famous, rich and powerful! But they're up against a lot of competition! Can they do it?

The 39 Clues: The Maze of Bones by Rick Riordan is the first in a new trans-media series that connects books, clues, and website experiences together. Amy and Dan Cahill are at the center of a mystery adventure reminiscent of the DaVinci Code book and National Treasure movies. The two children are competing with powerful and influential family members to find clues leading to what's been described as the greatest treasure of all time. Woven through the books are historical references, mathematical problems, and intriguing puzzles that will eventually lead to a solution. The quirky characters and fast pace make this book a quick, interesting read. The accompanying website is an element sure to draw in reluctant readers. The focus on history and puzzles reminds me of the books of Blue Balliett. One book down, just thirty-eight to go. This series will keep people of all ages reading for years to come.
