After receiving a package from her estranged father, Karen Whitlaw doesn't even give it a second glance. But when Dexter Whitlaw is murdered in New Orleans and Karen is plagued by a series of mysterious "accidents", she soon realizes that someone is desperate to get their hands on the package. With help from homicide detective, Marc Chastain, Karen must learn her father's secrets before she falls victim to a determined killer.
The suspense plot is good, but the romance falls flat mainly due to the judgmental hero.
Karen and Marc's relationship gets off on the wrong foot when he makes some rather ugly assumptions about her. Then, all of a sudden, he has an epiphany and realizes he has made a mistake, and she is the perfect woman to take as his next conquest. Please save me from this man's gigantic ego!
Unfortunately, Karen falls very easily for his possessive charm and protectiveness, and what little tension there is between them at the outset fizzles very quickly once they hop into bed. As is always the case with Linda Howard, the sex scenes are sizzling even if the emotional connection is lacking.
The mystery is much better with some intense and exciting moments even though the villain is revealed early on. There is some bumbling around on the part of the hired goons that defies common sense, but Karen is a strong heroine and there is, thankfully, no damsel in distress routine.
In sum, not one of Howard's better books but it is a quick and entertaining read nonetheless.

Karen Whitlaw and her estranged father Dex, an ex-Viet Nam sniper determined to blackmail someone from his past. Karen, grieving the recent loss of her mother, travels to New Orleans at the behest of Detective Marc Chastain when informed of her father's death. What follows is Karen's reckoning with her ambiguous feelings about a father who deserted her as a child, as well as her journey into sensuality with Marc. Meanwhile, sinister forces from her father's past seek to destroy Karen and the book her father held over someone's head.
"Kill and Tell" was a very good mixture of action and romance. It kept you guessing how all the players were tied together.

This is an older book - but still very good, in my opinion. There were layers to the mystery, and plenty of action. More love scenes than I usually need - but well done. Also well narrated by Natalie Ross

Rating: 5This was a great story - the mystery and suspense were just gripping enough without being too horrifying, the characters were believable and sympathetic, and the romance - WOW! I LOVED the "dancing on the balcony" scene - might have my husband read that one!

She never expected her estranged father to show up dead and complicate everything.New Orleans homicide detective Mike Chastain has no patience with people who abandon their elderly relatives to street life, no matter how pretty they might happen to be. But something about this case isn't adding up.Formulaic, sure, and the villain's perfectly clear from the very beginning, but still one of Howard's better efforts.
Rating: 4I liked this romantic suspense but after initial action it moved kind of slow with lots of thinking about everything until the exciting ending. The almost love at first romance was good with an alpha hero who showers affection his woman. Detective Marc is investigating a murder and soon becomes attracted to the victims daughter Karen.

Her estranged father is killed in his city and she must go claim the body while he tries to figure out who killed Dad and why. Of course she's now in danger and the handsome detective is going to protect her.An absolutely forgettable book. I was half way through it before I remembered reading it before. And even then, I didn't remember what happened. Not only did I forget reading this book, but on closer examination I realized this book is part of a series and that I've read one of the sequels and had forgotten it as well. It's not bad for what it is, it just doesn't have any depth. It would have gotten a higher rating from me if I'd recognized it right away.
Rating: 2This is the first in a trilogy featuring John Medina (ultimate spy). He doesn't have much play time in this book though as it's centered around yummy Marc, a cop from New Orleans and the withdrawn Karen, nurse from Ohio. Her estranged father winds up murdered in New Orleans and since he was ex-military Marc wants to help Karen find out what happened and also to help her get over her self-protection mode. It gets a bit steamy in places and they do seem to spend a lot of quality bed-time getting to know each other in between dodging people trying to kill Karen for a mysterious book her father sent her right before he was killed. I'm enjoyed this book although it didn't have some of the fun wit that a couple of the other's I've read had. I am looking forward to All the Queen's Men which tells John's story.

Sometime later, her father is murdered in New Orleans. She flies down to identify the body and begins a relationship with Detective Marc Chastain. Soon after returning home, her mother's house burns to the ground and someone breaks into her apartment trying to kill her. Someone is after the contents of the package her father sent, but who?The plot of this book is excellent. Suspenseful, intricate, and realistic, it's easily the best thing about the book. Karen and Marc have some halfway believable chemistry, as well. The real flaw in the writing is Howard's love scenes. Her terminology is cringeworthy. Fortunately, there is no important information or dialogue during them, so go ahead and skip them. Focus on the mystery, you'll be all right.

However her father had given her evidence of a murder and now those who paid for the killing want the evidence back. When her father is killed in New Orleans, detective Marc Chastain gets the case. He gets in contact with Karen who flies down to claim the body and gets Marc's as well!There is one mega hot love scene in this book, but other than that there are so many implausibilities that neither the mystery nor the romance hold up all that well. That Karen and Marc should fall in love and commitment so quickly beggars belief, and the character of the villain is both predictable and not very interesting. This is a reread for me, but not a keeper. I bought this book on impulse and I'll pass it on, but it held your attention while you were there. B-

She hasn't seen him in years but she finds herself now having to go to New Orleans and identify the body. There she also finds Marc Chastain, a detective who is interested in her. Her father's death is taken as being just a horrible accident.When she returns home she finds that the story isn't over. She has to work with Marc to get her life back in order, she also finds that she's very attracted to Marc.It's more about the relationship than the mystery and while interesting is somewhat shallow.
Rating: 4I read this a while back, so I'm struggling to remember it all. I usually remember if a book was a huge stinker. This one must have been pretty good, because my lasting memories of it are first, how steamy it was, and second, I really like Marc Chastain's character. I'm ready to read it again, and that's always the sign of a good book.
