About this audiobook
Robin Maxwell’s debut novel introduces Anne Boleyn and her daughter, Elizabeth: one was queen for a thousand days, the other for more than forty years. Both were passionate, headstrong women, loved and hated by Henry VIII.
At the beginning of Elizabeth’s reign, her mother’s private diary is given to her by a mysterious lady. In reading it, the young ruler — herself embroiled in a dangerous love affair — discovers a great deal about her much maligned mother.
Through Anne’s writing, Elizabeth finds an echo of her own dramatic life as a powerful young woman at the center of England’s male establishment and, with the knowledge gained from it, makes a resolution that will change the course of history.
“A wonderfully juicy historical novel so convincing that it’s difficult to believe it is the author’s first. . . . Maxwell brings . . . all of bloody Tudor England vividly to life.” - Publishers Weekly (starred review)
“An historical fiction classic. Beware: this is truly addictive reading.” — Michelle Moran, author of Madame Tussaud
“Dazzling. Historical fiction at its finest.” - C. W. Gortner, author of The Confessions of Catherine de’ Medici
Robin Maxwell
Robin Maxwell began writing novels about the historical figures she had been obsessing about since graduating from Tufts University with a degree in Occupational Therapy. Her bestselling first novel The Secret Diary of Anne Boleyn, won two YA awards and has been translated into fourteen languages. The Wild Irish —an epic tale of Ireland's rebel queen, Grace O'Malley—closed out her Elizabethan Quartet and is now in development for a television series. Signora Da Vinci and Jane: The Woman Who Loved Tarzan are tales of the remarkable women behind two of the world's most beloved wildmen, Maestro Leonardo and Lord Greystoke. Robin lives with her husband of forty years, yogi Max Thomas, at High Desert Eden, a wildlife sanctuary in the Mojave Desert.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Maxwell had earned a place among my favorite historical fiction authors with this book and “Madmoiselle Boleyn” (the tale of a young Anne at the French court). These are well written and exceptionally narrated audio books.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I have always loved Anne Boleyn as an historical character. I first read this book more than 10 years ago, I think, but it was one of those books that remained with me. I was intrigued to know whether, after all that time, it was as I remembered. I was not disappointed, indeed, the Narrator did such a wonderful job of bringing this story to life I was completely enthralled.
The Author’s note at the conclusion is just as entertaining. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Interesting idea to use a Diary to link the two women. Enjoyed the book and thought the reader exceptional.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is my new favorite. I wish someone would make this into a movie.
