- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Good storyline and characters.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A little slow in the beginning, this story picks up toward the end and I couldn't put it down. The intrigue of a secret and a campaign scandal with a (Christian) love story thrown in. The Christian overtones in the novel were subtle, but still resonating a difficult feat in Christian fiction where it is easy to come off as preachy and overbearing. Elizabeth White manged to stay firmly on the other side of the line with a very enjoyable read and love story. I loved the setting; Mobile, Alabama, Mississippi and some great Alabama politics thrown in. Overall a very enjoyable read and I will definitely be reading more Elizabeth White in the future.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Well, the politics weren't really that interesting nor the scandalous secret but main character sympathetic and well enough written. MIght have rated another star if scandal wasn't so lame and I wasn't still cringing from a scene where book's male lead (after nearly half the book of not doing much of anything, much less talking to her or to God in prayer) gets in the shower, suddenly gets religion and starts talking to God and being convinced God told him exactly what to do--just completely out of the blue for anything exhibited by character to that point.
Meager religion/faith parts of book were very jarring--just shoe-horned in instead of flowing naturally or having anything to do with plot or characters. Maybe to get published authors have to gimmick up with real religion genres or paranormal stuff rammed in there somewhere. I like my religious fiction to either be preachy/devotional or to be a living, day to day faith just naturally a part of the character's lives versus edited in.
Whether or not it was Christian fiction did not matter to me (a good read is a good read and it is my religion so not offended personally) but book should have been clearly labeled as being in that genre. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5If you like light-hearted contemporary romance, Off The Record is a book you should check out. Elizabeth White sets this book in Mobile, Alabama, and the flavor of the place comes to life. Her characters are endearing and are well-developed. And even if they did go to The School Up North (otherwise known as Ole Miss) – Hail State!, I really liked them. A quick read, it was a fun diversion after some rather heavy reading. Definitely a good choice for romance fans!Recommended.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is a really good read. Laural and Cole will make you want t o laugh with them and cry with them. Very cute book.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Meet Laural Kincaid. She's running for Supreme Court Justice. Cole McGaughan is reporting on the upcoming election. Both hold a secret which connects them. Will Cole ruin Laural chances by revealing the secret and furthering his career? Or will protect the girl he's never forgotten? Good book. I always enjoy an Eliabeth White story.
