With over 22,000,000 copies sold in 50 languages, and used in more than 176 nations, Dianetics brings dramatic and permanent improvement to people all over the world.

“While it’s true that Dianetics has become the self-improvement classic, there can be little doubt that what it has to offer is just what people are now looking for in ever increasing numbers. Reducing stress, achieving goals, improving relationships and striving to live up to one’s full potential is definitely the in thing.” (New York Post)

“Hubbard’s bestseller has helped millions, and it should be read and used by all who are searching for a true understanding of the mind and a solution to such problems as self-doubt, stress, anxiety and depression.” (World Reporter)

“[Dianetics is] a new science which works with the invariability of physical science in the field of the human mind. From all indications it will prove to be as revolutionary for humanity as the first caveman’s discovery and utilization of fire.” (Daily Mirror)

If you’ve ever felt there was something holding you back in life, ruining your plans and stopping you from being who you want to be, you were right.

The fact is, there is a single source of all your problems, stress, unhappiness and self-doubt. It’s called the reactive mind—the hidden part of your mind that stores all painful experiences, then uses them against you.

With Dianetics, you can learn to control your reactive mind—freeing you to live an extraordinary life and be your true self.

Don’t live with insecurity, negative thoughts, depression and irrational behavior. Use Dianetics to take control of your future.

Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health
Author

L. Ron Hubbard

With 19 New York Times bestsellers and more than 350 million copies of his works in circulation, L. Ron Hubbard is among the most enduring and widely read authors of our time. As a leading light of American Pulp Fiction through the 1930s and '40s, he is further among the most influential authors of the modern age. Indeed, from Ray Bradbury to Stephen King, there is scarcely a master of imaginative tales who has not paid tribute to L. Ron Hubbard. Then too, of course, there is all L. Ron Hubbard represents as the Founder of Dianetics and Scientology and thus the only major religion born in the 20th century.

A pound of of megalomania + a cup of science fiction + 1/2 each of bad history, bad philosophy, and bad psychiatry. Get baked for an hour. Then throw this book away because it's utter garbage that only continues to get sold because of either curious people like me or because members of the cult have to buy it.

Some of the worst drivel I've ever read. At first I didn't think I could finish this moronic ranting, but then I started to be amused on every page by the sheer lunacy of the author and the idiocy of his concepts and how gullible those are who buy into this concept that the author openly stated he was starting in order to create a new church as a personal tax break. You'll have more fun tearing up a ten dollar bill and watching if float down the gutter than reading this pathetic text.

I have attempted to read this book no less than a half dozen times. I have never been able to make it past page 32. First I start mumbling to myself, then I start keeping tally of the number of inconsistencies and made up words....the next thing I know I am stammering and drooling with pent-up frustration at the complete psychosis that would cause words to be placed in that particular order...the last thing I remember before blacking out is jumping up and down on the book, screaming inanities (which, somehow, are more intelligible than the drivel contained within this tome).

Lather, Rinse, Repeat .... Every. Single. Farking. Time...

Look, I can read some ridiculous tripe (have you seen my library?)...but seriously, any thread of a coherent ... anything?

I regret throwing away this book. This is because I tried to flush it down my toilet (a deserving fate, I know), but it clogged my toilet and I had to get a plunger out to fix it.It is filled with fallacies, tautologies, and pseudoscience galore. I gleefully pointed out the contradictions in place by the end of the first chapter, then despaired for humanity that somebody took that crap seriously.I'm still mad I wasted 50 cents on it at the bargain bin.

The author did a great job of demonstrating that he had absolutely no understanding of any branch of science. His pseudo-philosophical rantings in the areas of biology, psychology, sociology, and other areas were laughable.

L Ron should have stuck to science fiction (at least then I wouldn't have to worry about reading his crap). I find it appalling that anyone would read this book and take it seriously but then there are other "religious" books that people take seriously and that is scary too.

Ugh. I tried to read this book (out of curiosity), but I only got to page 45 before having to stop in utter frustration and disgust. It is all gibberish. All the words are recognizable in themselves, but whatever the author is trying to tell you makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. One of the things you are supposed to do as you read this book is to stop when you don't understand something and reread that sentence or section, and keep rereading it until you understand. You are not read further until you understand what you have read. Well, when there is no meaning underneath it all, it won't matter how many times you reread it, it just won't make sense. Ah, but that's the beauty of it. You read something over enough times and you either begin to convince yourself that you understand or simply move on and pretend you understand. In any case, nothing becomes clearer in the process. So, is this what it is all about? A kind of self-hypnosis? Here is a paragraph, chosen at random:"The engram has the aspect of--and is not--a live entity which protects itself in various ways. Any and all phrases in it can be considered commands. These commands react on the analytical mind in such a way as to cause the analytical mind to behave erratically." Whatever. Or this paragraph: "If you care to make the experiment you can take a man, render him "unconscious," hurt him and give him information. By Dianetic technique, no matter what the information you gave him, it can be recovered. This experiment should not be carelessly conducted because you might also render him insane." Wow. Does anyone ever get through this book? Back in the free pile it goes -- or maybe the trashcan.

Not modern, not science. It’s complete bull, and all Scientology is interested in is your money.

Recommended to buy Scientology, after I shared where I've been and where I'm at. What I'm looking for. Can see why most his books are three star or less. I found here on am audiobook.

    Dianetics, nah.

"Scientology is first and foremost a practical religion that helps provide answers and solutions to real-life problems." In one of my emails. NOT

    I listened and nothing connected.

This is some of the most asinine concepts I have ever encountered. Just, wow. Psychology saved my life, too bad it didn't save LRHs before he wrote this garbage.

Knowledge, specifically Empirical Knowledge is based mainly on practical experience or on experiment and not on theory. Dianetics is the most workable, practical and applicable science of the mind and is the truest and best solution of the problems of your mind. If you want the truth and the facts, then go look for yourself and experience a good session of auditing to find out and don't listen to opinions of others. One only knows when one sees for oneself. The decision is yours and not others to decide. The truth is seeing is believing.

    A Bit of Background:

The year 2010 marks the Sixtieth year of publication of Dianetics. Clearly, you want the new edition. This entry is Amazon.com's older paperback. Get this one instead: Dianetics: The Modern Science Of Mental Health (English); Or better yet, get the book & audio kit: Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health [With Booklet]; Or get the video presentation of how it works: Dianetics Self-Improvement Package; Dianetics: A Visual Guidebook to the Mind - L. Ron Hubbard.

OK, here's my review. I've actually read the book and used it. It is a manual that is meant to be used. Use it to help your friends and family. Joining organizations and such is not necessary. Just read the book, and use it to help your friends.

    First Impressions:

What's new in the new edition? Well, nothing! The publisher didn't change anything in the book itself other than typos and punctuation errors that were introduced by Hermitage House Publishers back in 1950. In comparing the original manuscript and putting those footnotes in the back of the book, enlarging and darkening the font size, it makes for a more comfortable read.

Dianetics is an alternative to psychology and outlines several basic things that can help a person help themselves (thus the phrase "self-help") as well as help others.

    Table of Contents:

Among the chapters in this book we find the following: The Goal of Man; The Dynamic Principle of Existence; The Four Dynamics (a dynamic is a drive upon which life is compartmented); a descriptive graph of survival (which was interesting - I never knew survival was more than "just barely making it" until I read Hubbard's definition); and the discovery and complete anatomy of what Hubbard calls the "Reactive Mind", which commands one to act irrationally against their own wishes and goals. Since I have been known to act irrationally, it's good to see what's causing it and what to do about it.

It's a thick book, 491 pages of actual text, divided into Theory and Practical applications; a 5 page glossary of important terms; a chapter called Dianetics in the 21st Century that brings us up to date from those long-gone days of 1950 (the year Dianetics was published) which has reprints from the LA Star and The Daily News, which did news articles on Hubbard and Dianetics at that time. Lots of photos in this section, too.

It's interesting to see what their view was. And finally, an appendix that briefly lists other self-help books by Hubbard, which are all new 2008 editions!

Oh, and finally, finally, The Editor's Glossary, that gives dictionary definitions to English words as they were used in 1950 as well as specialized Dianetics terms, as they were used at that time of writing. This is real handy and makes reading the book that much more easily read.

    Summarizing a Long Book!

It's tough for me not to write a long review on a book that is over 600 pages thick. It has every imaginable area of human relationships clearly delineated and how Dianetics can help problems associated with these: alcoholism, post partum depression, divorces, domestic violence and drug abuse amongst them.

    Bottom Line:

So get this book but use Amazon's latest and greatest 2008 edition of the book, as I've described above. Remember, Dianetics is not Scientology and Dianetics is not a religion. It does not obligate anyone to just pick up a copy and read it. It is also in Tagalog, Spanish, French, German and a few other languages.

    Read this book.

This book is the one thing that explained it all when it comes to mental structure, anf human behavior. The potentially fatal behaviors I may have once not seen as detrimental I now see my behavior and the behavior of others for what it is. In that I have forgiven all and do not make up for my past any longer , . an entirely new understanding to mark out the sanity and insanities or this beautiful planet and beyond.
