About this audiobook
Amelia Bedelia goes to school and mixes up just about everything in this funny book about the childhood of the iconic character.
In the first book in the nationally bestselling series about the childhood of America's favorite literal-minded housekeeper, Amelia Bedelia is sure that she will absolutely love school—after all, what's not to love?
But after hopping on the bus ""just like a bunny"" (hurry up, sweetie!), confusing her name tag with a game (we are not playing tag), and gluing herself to her seat (oh, dear), Amelia Bedelia discovers that what she takes for granted is not always the way the world works. Still, friendships are formed, lessons are learned, and projects are completed, and through it all Amelia Bedelia's teacher, Mrs. Edwards, offers gentle guidance and an open heart.
The Amelia Bedelia books have sold more than 35 million copies!

Reviews for Amelia Bedelia's First Day of School
10 ratings9 reviews
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5a cut modern take on Amelia Bedelia. I think some of the humor was lost on my 4 year old.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Realistic fiction for early primary grade levels. Amelia Bedelia (as a child) excitedly comes to school and causes many interruptions and ahs a lot of fun taking things too literally. She learns a lot her first day and is excited tocome back again the next. Media: Water color
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The book is not one of the normal Amelia Bedelia books. This Amelia is alot younger , but still fun. It is a wonderful book for elementary age children. The book is about Amelia's first day of school. She is so excited she can hardly focus. They did all kinds of exciting activities through out the day. Everything her teacher told her she took the wrong way. At the end, Amelia could not wait to go back to school the next day.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The Amelia Bedelia series was one of my favorite series when I was growing up. I was happy to see that Herman Parish had created a picture book for a younger audience. The humor is the same and the style of writing is the same as the longer stories that were written for an older audience. This is an entertaining book to read and I think that it would be great to use as a read aloud in a classroom.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5You could use with ELL students and ask them if they can relate to any experiences that Amelila faced. Many times when learning a new language there are similar misunderstandings by taking things too literally. You can teach your students how to play with words and find double meanings in texts. You can also teach how to use elipses, italics when onomatopoeia words are used. Repetition and use of capitals are also very prevalent in the book and can be taught to students.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It is about a girl that goes to school. In your class you could talk about first grade experiences and how that affects each student as they really start to do homework and test. You could also take the book and explain how important it is to come to school and do the work. Also, you could discuss how they can relate to Amelia and her experiences.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I gave this book five stars because children really love reading these books. These books are something fun to read that children can relate to. The illustrators are hilarious and very good. Every child can relate to his or her first day of school and all of the strange things that happens to you on that day. You don't fit in. You are trying to make new friends. You are getting used to feeling of school and getting used to your new teacher. I remember my first day of school. Three girls in my class wore ladybug suits all alike. I had to glue fruit loops on paper in the shapes of the alphabet in order to learn what my letters were. I knew no one except for my brother and sister, but they were not in my class. You could discuss friendshis, schoolwork, school rules, and being new to an environment with children.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book is a great book to read on the first day of school. It is a fun and light read to help solve some of the first day jitters.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Amelia Bedilia is a fun hearted book about a girl that takes everything literal. As she goes through he first day of school everyone really likes her because she is quirky. It teaches us that you can be different and people will still like you.
