    Dyamonde Daniel has her eye on a new pair of red high-top sneakers. Following some bad advice from a classmate, she thinks she has the right idea to go about getting them – by demanding her mother buy them! Unfortunately for Dyamonde, Mrs. Daniel doesn’t appreciate being told what to do and decides to teach her daughter a lesson. Soon Dyamonde finds herself in a clothing crisis, with almost zero to wear!

    Dyamonde is furious. But she begins to realize that some people have troubles much greater than hers . . . including her friend, Isabel Martinez, whose family has suffered a real crisis. Deciding she must she must help the Martinez family, Dyamonde enlists the aid of everyone she knows to do so.

      The themes of greed and compassion are contrasted for the young reader in an understandable way, and Dyamonde's initiative to begin a clothing drive for her classmate is a nice culmination of the two themes.

      Dyamonde wanted a pair of shoes and she told her mom she had to buy it for her cause thats what mom is suppose to do. Her mom taught her a lesson by taking her clothes away and making her wear the same clothes for days. One day the teacher told the class that one of their classmate lost all of their belongings in a fire. So Dyamonde ran home to tell her mom that she needed her clothes to donate to a friend in need. Her mom gave back all her clothes cause Dyamonde was doing a good deed.This books makes you realize what you have and what others don't have. Also that its better to give than to receive.

      This story teaches readers how to be selfless and to learn the difference in things we need and things we want. Dyamonde is a young girl who becomes wrapped up in getting her favorite red high top shoes and demands her mother gets her exactly what she wants. Isabel's house unfortunately gets burned down and looses everything she has. Dyamonde learns to let go of her greedy ways and wants to give Isabel's family anything and everything she can possible. This story portrays selflessness and encourages readers to think about the less fortunate. I would highly recommend students to read this novel.

      This was a very interesting book about a young African American protagonist Dyamonde, who wanted a pair of expensive shoes that her classmate had. This led her into demanding it from her mom who took away all her clothes to make sure that she had a sense of gratitude, Dyamonde realized this and proceeded to help her friend by donating her clothes to her and organizing a fundraiser for her family. Fast paced book that will interest any young reader.

      This is another book by Nikki Grimes. In this story i learn never take anything for granted because it can be taken away in a blink of an eye. Her mother teachers her a lesson and she also learns as well.

      I read this book hoping it would be a great thing to read to children as an African-influenced book. Aside from the characters, there wasn't too much of that in here. However, it is a good story about a girl who takes the possessions she has for granted & when her friend's house is destroyed by a fire, she starts a clothing drive in hopes to lessen the family's burden. Although not what I was originally looking for, it would be a great read to children as part of a discussion about the less fortunate.

      This book is about a girl who thinks she can get everything she wants. Her mother decides to take a lot of things away from her to show her daughter that she is not being very nice. Dyamonde gets angry. She soon comes to realize that she has it good. That some people don't have as much as she does and she finally decides to do something about it.

      This is a great book that teaches the reader that you should never take anything for granted, and also that it is better to give than to receive. Great lessons put in a context that children will enjoy.
