- (1/5)STATE SECRETS by Linda Lael Miller was published in 1985. Some updating has been done, such as referring to someone being on Ellen instead of another, older talkshow, but other than that the novella remains as written. Including references to a character who is obviously meant to be read as sympathetic giving secrets to al Qaeda. Bad copyeditor/author/person who let that go, no cookie. I also just plain didn't like the romance because it was another case of woman thinking yes but saying no and man proceeding onward despite her verbal nos. Skeevy.
THE FIVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS by Lindsay McKenna should have worked for me, and might have had it been longer or had I read any of the rest of the series. As a standalone, however, the romance seems forced and rushed.
(Provided by publisher) - (1/5)I felt like both stories were awkward and slow. Couldn't wait for them to be over.
- (3/5)Two for the holidays, both sweet but fairly forgettable. In "State Secrets" a cookbook author distantly related to the President-Elect is shadowed by a secret service agent after she comes under suspicion of being a threat to her cousin."The Five Days of Christmas" is shorter and less memorable yet. Mercenary Colt Hamlin is suffering from PTSD, but a plot by Morgan Trayhern's wife lures him out of his misery and hooks him up with a local teacher, just in time for the annual gift-giving. Borrowed this one from the library, thank goodness!
