About this audiobook
From the No. 1 bestselling author of THE MISSING AND THE DEAD comes the short novel: 22 DEAD LITTLE BODIES, plus two short stories: STRAMASH and DI STEEL'S BAD HEIR DAY, and a novella: THE 45% HANGOVER, all featuring his most popular characters - DS Logan McRae and DCI Roberta Steel.
They say ‘small is beautiful’, but as Stuart MacBride demonstrates in these four tales, it can also be dark, violent, disturbing, and sometimes really quite rude.
So pour yourself a wee dram, curl up on the sofa and enjoy DS Logan McRae and his sometime boss, friend, mother substitute, and nemesis, DCI Steel at their best.
Here you’ll find Logan’s week from hell; Steel’s own personal nightmare before Christmas; an explosive shootout on a remote Scottish island; and the ultimate test of their relationship…

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Laurie Moran and her team have been researching and preparing pitch ideas for the next Under Suspicion television show. They've narrowed their choices down to three unsolved cases when the mother of the so-called "runaway bride" comes in and asks that they find out the truth about her daughter's disappearance. Laurie is sure that this case is the case for Under Suspicion to investigate in All Dressed In White by Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke.Normally Laurie and her team has weeks, if not months, to prepare and investigate a case for their television show. All that changes with the impromptu visit of Sandra Pierce, on behalf of her missing daughter and bride-to-be Amanda Pierce. Now the team has less than a week to do the background on each member of the wedding party, obtain everyone's permission to appear on the show, and book the Florida resort the wedding would have taken place at five years earlier. It doesn't take long before Laurie realizes that not everyone saw Amanda in the same loving light as her mother. Amanda's sister had and continues to have jealousy issues? Amanda's best friend and maid of honor is now married to Amanda's fiancé. And Amanda's fiancé stands to gain a couple of million dollars in her will despite an ironclad prenuptial agreement. Did Amanda get cold feet and simply walk away from her fiance, job, and family or was her disappearance due to more deadly motives?I found All Dressed in White to be a fast-paced and enjoyable read, as well as a great addition to the Under Suspicion series. This story provides just a little more background and insight into Laurie and Alex's growing relationship, adding a little bit of a romance element to this mystery. I found the characters to be well-developed, realistic and likable. The authors provide just enough information to the reader that almost every member of the bridal party becomes suspicious until the bitter end (no, I won't reveal whodunnit...read the book!). The story takes a few twists and turns along the way, but that only added to my overall enjoyment. If you enjoy reading mysteries or simply are looking for something a little different to read this fall, then I suggest you grab a copy of All Dressed in White.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5was this book and agreed to give it an honest review, but I had to requests books 1 and 2 from my library, before I could read it thinking it wouldn't make sense, but it really didn't matter as each book is a standalone. Again the Under Suspicion team is called upon to find out what happened to this bride who went missing on he eve of her big wedding in Florida. After five years of not giving up on her daughter Mrs. Pierce convinces Laurie to take the case as she suspects the intended groom is guilty after she learns Amanda willed her trust fund to him!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/52nd in a new series. An entertains read
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5A little bit of a hot mess, to be honest. Having read both Burke's and Mary Higgins Clark's works, their voices really don't fuse well. And the epilogue clearly had some pieces edited out as it didn't make solid sense. That said, enough twists to keep it interesting. I'll keep on reading this series.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Really good and very funny I wish it was longer
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5“Under Suspicion” is a true crime television reality show that investigates unsolved cold cases. Guided by producer Laurie Moran, the case currently being investigated focuses on Amanda Pierce, a bride who disappeared from a hotel the night before her wedding. The suspect list is long and includes Amanda’s fiancé and her best friend who are now married to each other. Despite the scrutiny, Jeff and Meghan claim they had no interest in each other until after Amanda’s disappearance. Others on hand for the reenactment of the weekend the bride disappeared include the bridesmaids, groomsmen, and Amanda’s brother and sister. Conflicting stories and the suggestion by several of the suspects that the bride intentionally disappeared all serve to complicate the investigation. With more than enough deceit, suspicion, and intrigue to script a soap opera, this mystery will keep readers guessing right up to the unexpected reveal.Recommended.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5“All Dressed in White” by Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke“All Dressed in White” is the second book in the Under Suspicion series co-authored by the much esteemed Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke.Laurie Moran’s wildly popular crime show, Under Suspicion, features profiles of cold cases in hopes of finding a resolution. Missing persons is not their usual forte, but when the mother of Amanda Pierce asks Laurie to help her uncover the truth about her daughter’s mysterious disappearance, Laurie agrees to look into the case. Amanda and Jeff were the golden couple, all set to begin their life together. But, on the eve of their wedding, Amanda vanishes without a trace. Had she simply walked away or did someone murder her? Who stood to gain from her death? Who were her enemies? What secrets will float to the surface once Laurie and her team start digging around in the past? Will they find Amanda dead…or alive?I love cold case mysteries more than any other type, so after reading “The Cinderella Murder,” I knew this series was for me. While the first book was very good, this second installment is even better. It’s bad enough when someone is murdered and years pass without justice being served, but when someone disappears for five long years, it’s unlikely they simply ran away. Still, by now the details are murky, there is no body, no proof of a crime, and people have moved forward with their lives. But, bringing all the players back together to tape the show reveals a few cracks in the armor within Amanda’s own family, her friends, and with the all too perfect fiancé. This story is absorbing and kept me guessing all the way to the bitter end. I loved it! The pacing is perfect, the story is compelling, the mystery is a real puzzler, and is written by two of my favorite female mystery writers. This is a clean mystery, without graphic details and the language is very mild, making this a story everyone can enjoy. 4.5 stars.Reviewed by Julie Whiteley for Suspense Magazine
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Good short stories although not as satisfying as the full length novels. Slightly more humour in these than the longer length ones. I you like Stuart McBride's D.I.Steele then these are worth a read.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Short novel starring Logan McRae and Roberta Steel.
One thing that Stuart MacBride does very well is tying up loose ends with regards to the mysteries and leave you hanging with the characters (all of them!), wondering what will happen next. Looking forward to the next one! - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5"The Espace pulled forward up the ramp, apparently unaware that they had nearly had an extra three passengers in the back seat, complete with patrol car."I read this in two sittings (over two days).Great fiction it's not, but:- I've never read any of the others in the series, and had no trouble with the characters or any pre-events (there's one bit that seems a little out of character so now I want to read the earlier books to make sense of it!)- It was definitely gripping and I plowed through the pages- It's got a very strong sense of setting in Aberdeen - a great mix of accents, local landmarks, the mix of suburbia and a seedier underbelly- Both McRae and Steel are well-developed characters (Steel felt somewhat caricatured) and minor characters are left to be just that.Good fun.
