      DS Imogen Grey and DS Adrian Miles are called in to investigate a series of gruesome murders, starting with the death of a head teacher of an exclusive school.This is the first in a series to feature the two detectives and for me it's always the best place to start. I enjoy books with male and female partnerships solving crimes.This book starts of really well. There is a lot of characters with each chapter dedicated to each one in turn and what happens to them. All are connected and it does all come clear. The story flew along and is not for the faint hearted. The murders are gruesome with lots of gore. I was really enjoying the story until about just over half way through. Then the story just went downhill from there. The story was flawed and some of the situations unrealistic. By the time I reached the end of the book I didn't much care for it.I would have liked to have seen more of Imogen and Adrian and there relationship, whichever way it could go. Not sure if I would be inclined to carry on with the series.

      Just fastforward through the gross parts! Colorful and clever police thriller with an emphasis on human psychology, this is an engrossing story, and very well performed. But uck. Could have done without the torture descriptions.

      Loved the suspense and the style of storytelling. I enjoyed how separate unrelated stories came full circle at the end and became one.

      This masterpiece was very well written. Each character was thoroughly defined, the author made you feel like you really knew everyone. The story was interesting from start to finish, many things were unexpected. I felt sad when it ended, such an enjoyable journey!

      I liked this audiobook. The narration was believable and appropriate for each character and the story kept me engaged, even if the horrific parts sort of turned me off because I felt they were a bit over the top. However, the story wasn't familiar - it was original - and the hero and heroine are an unexpected reveal. I would read/listen to more from this author.

The title is misleading as only the first chapter is about the teacher but then switches from present to past and is not done very smoothly. There are too many characters and too many viewpoints and the story does not flow well. The book seems to need more editing. I don't think I'll be continuing with this series.

      I'm quitting at page 61. The opening chapter was gripping (if disturbing), but subsequent chapters have featured completely different characters and it seems as if the plot is never going to get going. Plus the writing is beginning to bother me: the author strings what should be different sentences together with commas (see the first sentence of chapter 5, which is seven lines long and should be three separate sentences). Also (same chapter) if your company has shareholders, you don't own it - you might own a majority share, but you don't own it unless you have all the shares...

      Katerina Diamond’s debut is delightfully different and although it is labelled a psychological crime thriller, the character’s reactions to evil and refreshingly uncomplicated. First the headmaster of an exclusive school then a host of high profile members of a Devonshire town are murdered using agonising methods: Partners DS Imogen Grey and DS Adrian Miles – both of whom have troubled pasts – battle to find a connection between the killings. The book comprises innocent victims and unrepentantly cruel, twisted villains. Murder is always wrong and we should leave justice to the law – yet some crimes cry out for revenge and demand retribution

      Wow, wow, wow!!! Did I say wow?! I don't say this in reviews, but here it is: This book took my breath away. In all honesty, I had some issues keeping the characters straight in the first part of the book. Each chapter had a different character and a different scene, making my head spin. When I started taking short notes, I was in a much better place and this helped tremendously. I didn't need the notes for very long as everything and everyone came together pretty quickly in this serial killer mystery. This book had some of the grossest murders I've read, and I've read plenty of thrillers. Everything was in line with the storyline, nothing thrown in just to shock the reader. As the story built up and pieces of the puzzle came together, I had doubts of whether I wanted this crazed killer caught. Read it and you'll see what I mean. The detectives on the case were just what a thriller reader looks for: a couple of detective sergeants who are teamed up as they've both been in trouble in the recent past and are now being punished. Both are flawed yet determined to do the right thing. I absolutely loved the way the author played them off each other, the dialogue was so natural, and am hoping there are plans to make a series with these two. I know I'm sold on this author and these characters. The mystery in the book is a deep, dark, intricately woven one. It made me suspect every single character, which is what I love in a thriller. I'd love to say more, but I need to leave it to the future readers. Mystery lovers will love this one, in the daytime or with all the lights on!

      The Teacher is quite an impressive debut novel and an engrossing crime thriller, which I devoured over the weekend. Told from multiple perspectives (maybe a few too many) and switching from present to past, it was almost like reading two stories. I thought Abbey's "story", who is introduced in chapter 3, was incredibly well done, very realistic and very touching.I really liked the detective duo of DS Imogen Grey and DS Adrian Miles and would love it if there were further books with those two investigating crimes in Devon.The book came with the warning that it wasn't for the faint-hearted, which was actually something that attracted me to it in the first place (that and the cover and title, which I thought were pretty good). If you read a lot of serial killer or dark psychological thrillers, you will find that The Teacher isn't actually that gruesome. I thought it was pretty standard. To me, the strength of this book was the author's perceptive portrayal of all the characters. They all felt like authentic human beings and I became invested in what happened to them. Towards the end, the plot became a little too over-the-top for me. I don't want to spoil it, so I can't really go into detail but the airport scene and the subsequent car ride were a bit silly. Overall though a solid crime thriller. A really good example of how crime fiction can still be immensely engrossing even if the perpetrator is obvious from early on. I look forward to Katerina Diamond's next book.I received an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
