Beschreibung

Serial meets Ruth Ware's In A Dark, Dark Wood in this inventive and twisty psychological thriller-formerly titled Are You Sleeping-about a mega-hit podcast that reopens a murder case and threatens to unravel the carefully constructed life of the victim's daughter.

The only thing more dangerous than a lie…is the truth.

Josie Buhrman has spent the last ten years trying to escape her family and with good reason. After her father's murder thirteen years prior, her mother ran away to join a cult and her twin sister Lanie, once Josie's closest friend and confidant, betrayed her in an unimaginable way. Now, Josie has finally put down roots in New York, settling into domestic life with her partner Caleb, and that's where she intends to stay.

The only problem is that she has lied to Caleb about every detail of her past-starting with her last name.

When investigative reporter Poppy Parnell sets off a media firestorm with a megahit podcast that reopens the long-closed case of Josie's father's murder, questioning whether the wrong person may be behind bars, Josie's world begins to unravel. Meanwhile, the unexpected death of Josie's long-absent mother forces her to return to her Midwestern hometown where she must confront the demons from her past-and the lies on which she has staked her future.

Was decent but a bit too predictable for me. But still worth a read.
  • (2/5)
It sounds like the author has literally never spoken to another human being before.
  • (5/5)
It was interesting and it kept me reading until the end.

Loved the twist and turns in this book!! Highly recommend

It was okay, but, I have guessed the ending just a few pages in. The twists were very predictable and Josie, the main character was very annoying. Nonetheless, I still continued reading because it flowed smoothly and felt like watching a movie that I accidentally stumbled upon while boringly switching through the channels on TV.

I just felt that there was just too much repeating of conversation to hold my interest
  • (3/5)
Meh. Predictable and none of the main characters were very likeable.
  • (4/5)
The narration was really good. Very entertaining. Enjoyed very much!

Good but not amazing. The story is slow and not a lot to expect.

Good book. It kept me interested to the very end.
  • (5/5)

I loved this book. It was such an interesting plot line and kept me guessing all the time. I felt for all the characters and couldn’t get through the book fast enough. I definitely recommend this book!

Though I liked this book, I thought some of the characters were forgotten from time to time.

Definitely a page turner, ending fizzed out a little for my liking, but good otherwise!

Man, I kinda hated this. I guessed the ending very early on and I hated the main characters. I also feel like the author used the same turns of phrase over and over again. I bet I heard "my skin prickled with unease" at least 5 times, and even more variations of it. The language seemed uninspired and the story itself just felt sort of flat to me. The only part of this book that I enjoyed were the podcast bits.

"Not the worst book I've ever read" would sum this up pretty well for me.
