About this audiobook
A global movement guided by love.
Humans are a varied and divergent bunch with all manner of beliefs, morals, and bodies. Systems of oppression thrive off our inability to make peace with difference and injure the relationship we have with our own bodies.
The Body Is Not an Apology offers radical self-love as the balm to heal the wounds inflicted by these violent systems. World-renowned activist and poet Sonya Renee Taylor invites us to reconnect with the radical origins of our minds and bodies and celebrate our collective, enduring strength. As we awaken to our own indoctrinated body shame, we feel inspired to awaken others and to interrupt the systems that perpetuate body shame and oppression against all bodies. When we act from this truth on a global scale, we usher in the transformative opportunity of radical self-love, which is the opportunity for a more just, equitable, and compassionate world - for us all.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I’m a registered dietitian and I am not recommending this to most of my patients as well as all my friends. Thank you for an eye opening book that brings not just weight conditioning to the forefront. ALL conditioning about our bodies is simply just that... conditioning and it is up to each of us to break free. ???

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book should be mandatory reading for anyone who cares for others, anyone who wants to change society, anyone that works in a society ... basically everyone.
While the title of this book is an incredibly insightful and beautiful thought, the gift that Sonya encapsules this book is SO much more than just accepting that simple truth that has been hidden for so long.
It is also about looking outwardly to society, to your guilt, both unfounded guilt and real guilt that needs closer analysis to undo, to your history and the lessons we are taught since birth, to societies warped poodle science and all the way back to you with the same sense of new-age-loving, inspired, revolutionary thinking, that could really change our whole society and treatment of eachother if we allow ourselves to process all of the vital questions Sonya asks. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5AN AMAZING BOOK. Will definitely come back & reread this a dozen times.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Consumed in a day and enjoyed it thoroughly. Part nourishing self-love, part social justice, and exactly what we need to heal as a collective. Do yourself a favor and get a paper copy to hi-light as you listen to Sonya read. Her narration is great, and there are parts you’ll want to reference time and again.
Read this before you go on another diet, or spend a dime on the beauty industry. This is the internal work and should be required reading for all. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Provides some good messages on body-positivity and self-worth. Would recommend
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A freeing and reflective journey to loving my body bravely!
