About this audiobook
From number-one New York Times bestselling author Victoria Schwab comes a sweeping, spooky, evocative adventure, perfect for fans of Stranger Things and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.
Ever since Cass almost drowned (okay, she did drown, but she doesn't like to think about it), she can pull back the Veil that separates the living from the dead...and enter the world of spirits. Her best friend is even a ghost.
So things are already pretty strange. But they're about to get much stranger.
When Cass's parents start hosting a TV show about the world's most haunted places, the family heads off to Edinburgh, Scotland. Here, graveyards, castles, and secret passageways teem with restless phantoms. And when Cass meets a girl who shares her "gift", she realizes how much she still has to learn about the Veil—and herself.
And she'll have to learn fast. The city of ghosts is more dangerous than she ever imagined.
New York Times bestselling author Victoria Schwab delivers a thrillingly spooky and action-packed tale of hauntings, history, mystery, and the bond between friends (even if that friend is a ghost...).

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I'm fast becoming a big fan of Victoria's writing. She is very talented. My daughter who is 13 will love this as much as I have I'm sure. I'm scottish and the author is very accurate and knowledgeable. I know many Findlays, and all of them have a silent D in their name. I listened to this book, so haven't seen the name written and am curious to know if there are folk called Findlay who say the d. I'm going to research it....starting by how it's written in the book! Small thing, hardly worth mentioning. A 5 star read for sure, huge talent.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5The book was great, however the audio book narrator was awful. She attempted Scottish accents for some characters, however the accent she put in was so bad it was borderline offensive. If you can't do accents don't try. As a Scottish person I found it horrendous.

I liked City of Ghosts, it had a good storyline, an interesting take on the veil between worlds and likeable characters.
I am not sure why I found myself checking how long was left, or why I felt relieved when it got under the hour mark.
I really liked the reader too, her quick changes between characters were easily recognized.
It was a little eerie at times, which was what I was hoping for, especially during October.
I really like Jacob, and the friendship he has with Cassidy. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next in Tunnel of Bones, hopefully we find out more about him but I can’t see myself rushing to get to it, again, I’m not sure why.1 person found this helpful

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5This book is great at describing Edinburgh, building its atmosphere. Authors writing style was smooth and she didn't waste words needlessly.
Those are the perks of the book, made me finish it...that and the narrator did an excellent job !
But the story was more juvenile than I expected , excessive Harry Potter mentions.
I don't think I'll continue the series but I will check out the author work1 person found this helpful

The main premise of this book/series is that a young girl, Cassidy, can see and talk to ghosts. One is on this side, and the others are on the other side of the 'Veil' a “curtain” that she can pass through, and it's easier when her ghost 'friend' is with her.
Her parents write 'investigational ghost stories,' her mom is the believer her dad is the skeptic.
On a trip to Scotland, filming the first episode of her parent’s TV show based on their books, Cassidy spends her time seeing ghosts, good and bad, and discovering what her 'gift' can really do.
It's not that bad of a young reader story, suitable for readers of most ages, parents can read this to younger kids who are not afraid of ghost stories. It’s not that scary, but there are bad, mean, ghosts along with some of the bad ways they died. Not graphic or sexual. A short and quick read/listen.
