About this audiobook

In the bestselling tradition of The Silence of the Lambs comes The Tower, a novel of nail-biting suspense and heart-stopping terror played out in a psychological battle of wit, cunning, and pure evil between a diabolically clever killer and his determined hunter.

Allander Atlasia is an infamous psychopath whose heinous crimes have earned him a lifetime stay at the Tower (nicknamed Alcatraz II), the world's most extreme maximum-security prison. But after a brilliant and brutal escape, the criminal mastermind begins a killing spree that is intensely personal—one by one, victims fall prey to a twisted and chilling re-enactment of his own depraved past.

Jade Marlow is an ex-FBI profiler and tracker whose fearlessness is only surpassed by the severity of his own inner demons. With a record of irrational behavior and a genius for putting himself into the mind of a criminal predator, he may be the one man diabolical enough to catch Atlasia. In an escalating contest of wills and wits, two equally defiant men race toward a showdown where daring is deadly and failure is fatal.

I really like Gregg Hurwitz book, haven’t found one yet that I don’t enjoy. The plot to this book is very enjoyable but Jade Marlow is not likable at all. Every time I got into a scene he would do something so outrageous that it would make me consider putting the book down. It’s hard to read a book about searching for a serial killer when the protagonist is so hard to root for at times. The little bit of back story trying to justify why Jade Marlow has no feelings for others, has no social cues and doesn’t seems to care about anything or anyone else but his target- it doesn’t justify any of it. He’s still a jerk. If you can get past all that ridiculousness, the rest of the book is good

This book started well but after one third it was so annoying and stupid that it was a real struggle for me to finish it. Here are my main complaints:

    1) I know it is fiction but some resemblance to the real-life would make this book much better.

    2) All support characters (especially FBI agents) are so dumb that it is beyond me.

    3) The main character Jade is acting so stupid that it is a wonder why is he even the one chosen to lead the investigation. There is no logic whatsoever in most of what he does. It is a great wonder that he somehow finds the killer but then again (10th time in a row) he acts like a total douche because "I want to catch him by myself".

    4) yeah, I know that the best main characters "should have some flaws" but Jade is so arrogant and again - stupid - that it is very hard to follow or root for him. Brrr...

Long story short: if you haven’t read this book yet then it would be wise to stay away from it.

I had to force myself to finish this audiobook. Unlike the orphan x, this one is boring for miles without end. Maybe for someone who is into Freudian stuff

I usually love books by Hurwitz and will read more by him but this one was odd and didn’t work. It seemed to fall apart about 2/3 in for me. It was almost like it was written by different people. Scott Brick is the only reason I could keep going……He can make instruction manuals captivating.

Gregg is a very good author with nice character development. The story is complete and wraps up nicely but leaves it so that if he ever wants to continue in this universe with any of the main or minor characters he could easily build on it. I love listening to Scott as the reader of his stories.
