About this audiobook

This program includes a bonus interview with the author.

In Megan Goldin's unforgettable debut, The Escape Room, four young Wall Street rising stars discover the price of ambition when an escape room challenge turns into a lethal game of revenge.

Welcome to the escape room. Your goal is simple. Get out alive.

In the lucrative world of finance, Vincent, Jules, Sylvie, and Sam are at the top of their game. They’ve mastered the art of the deal and celebrate their success in style—but a life of extreme luxury always comes at a cost.

Invited to participate in an escape room as a team-building exercise, the ferociously competitive co-workers crowd into the elevator of a high rise building, eager to prove themselves. But when the lights go off and the doors stay shut, it quickly becomes clear that this is no ordinary competition: they’re caught in a dangerous game of survival.

Trapped in the dark, the colleagues must put aside their bitter rivalries and work together to solve cryptic clues to break free. But as the game begins to reveal the team’s darkest secrets, they realize there’s a price to be paid for the terrible deeds they committed in their ruthless climb up the corporate ladder. As tempers fray, and the clues turn deadly, they must solve one final chilling puzzle: which one of them will kill in order to survive?

Praise for The Escape Room:

"High wire tension from the first moment to the last. Four ruthless people locked in a deadly game where victory means survival. Gripping and unforgettable!" — Harlan Coben

"Amazing...a thriller set in an elevator [that explores] the vast territory of people's worst natures. A nightmarish look inside ourselves. Simply riveting." — Louise Penny, #1 New York Times bestselling author

I really liked this story. It also has a good story-telling narrators who tie the elements perfectly.

Kept my attention. Narrators did a great job and the idea to have male and female narrators is a great idea. Worth the listen.

Author a bit twee, good story idea though not bad.

Compelling concept, but for me, a lot of mystique and intrigue about how these characters ended up in this real escape room was lost in the monotony of boring and tedious financial jargon of their corporate jobs and unnecessary back stories. Most of the book I kept saying, "Get to the point!" The ultimate plot was predictable, I guessed at everything pretty early, so the ending was very anticlimactic and still felt a bit unresolved considering the circumstances.

I really enjoyed this book. I've never read this author before and I think I might look into her other books. It's not hard to figure out what is going to happen but it was still a great thriller.

This was a real good book. It wasn't as exciting as I wanted, but I never found myself bored with the story. She also took the story in a way that I wasn't expecting. I do believe this is the authors first novel, I will definitely read more by her.

Starts out exciting and gives you little teases on how it might end but I didn’t see the twist coming. Not too many characters in the book where you can’t keep track of who’s who. I loved this book.

Wow! I really enjoyed this book. The story was fantastic and the narration on point.

Good book! Takes place in the cutthroat world of high finance rife with all the sexism, and jealousies, and power plays, and rank brutalities that no doubt really do take place in that world. Interesting story of how one pretty savvy young woman outsmarts the most evil of her colleagues and does indeed outdo them in the end. Ending a little bit of a letdown for me, not as good as the main body of this story. Well done, nonetheless, and worth a listen. Does deserve all the high rankings it’s been receiving.
