About this audiobook
Megan Harper is the girl before…just like Rosaline from Romeo and Juliet. Every one of Megan’s relationships has ended the same way—her ex replaces her with someone perfect. But instead of crying over every breakup, Megan spends her time on her two passions: pursuing her next fling and directing theater.
She hates the spotlight, and she’s hoping to fulfill her college program’s acting requirement in the smallest role possible. But then, Megan’s theater teacher casts her to play none other than Juliet in her school’s production of Romeo and Juliet—and she meets Owen Okita, an aspiring playwright. In exchange for Megan’s help writing a play, Owen agrees to help Megan catch the eye of a hot hipster stagehand.
Between rehearsing and contending with her dad’s plans to move with Megan’s pregnant stepmom to New York, Megan begins to realize Owen—thoughtful, unconventional, and utterly unlike her exes—might be the Romeo she never expected. Better yet, with him, she might finally be a Juliet
Emily Wibberley
Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka met in high school and fell in love over a shared passion for Shakespeare. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Books where the main character lives mostly in their own head can be tricky. In this one Megan has been doing just that for years, with her loved ones and best friend either ignorant, or tolerant. Her behavior has allowed or forced her to unconsciously sabotage every romantic relationship she's had, with her rationalizing that she's fated to continue the patters. It takes tough love from her best friend and the right boy to start her down a different path. Read the book to see how that happens.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was adorable! I thought Megan was a refreshing personality for a female lead. She's flirty, sarcastic, and confident. So different from the usual shy, naive, don't-know-she's-beautiful types that are often cast as the MC in these these books. (Not that there's anything wrong with that, but still a refreshing change.) I enjoyed watching her grow and learn more about herself, her friends and what real love is like. Our male lead is Owen, he's a genuine good guy and excellent friend to Megan. I loved all of their banter and flirting. They made me laugh out loud! I enjoyed our side cast a lot, they're wonderfully diverse without making a big deal about it. I especially liked Anthony and his romance. All of the friend and family relationships in this grow a lot throughout the story which I really enjoyed. The drama scenes took me right back to high school and they really added fun layers to the story. I have a whole new view on Romeo and Juliet now! Overall I just had so much fun with this, it made me feel happy to read and I keep dwelling on it since I finished it a few days ago. The year isn't over yet but this might end up being my favorite contemporary of 2018.
